Opening vaults without Knox?

Hi. I'm trying out Knox and was just wondering if it is possible to open vaults without Knox?

The reason I ask is that I may be concerned that in the future Knox will be discontinued or disappear, leaving my vaults inaccessible (I know, probably an unlikely situation). Since it was mentioned that Knox uses file vault technology I thought they would be .dmg files but they don't appear to be when I look at them.

Thanks!

    Hi kurzz,

Knox vaults aren't DMGs, at least not by default, but they are standard OS X secure sparsebundles and so you can indeed open your vaults on any system running OS X 10.5 or later.

Knox is really just a great way to make the creation and management of these vaults easier than manually using Disk Utility, that said, we do have some great plans for Knox for the future that will give it some truly fantastic features.

    Hope that helps,
