Wont install

Hi all,

1password was recommended as a solution to the barrage of passwords we now all have to handle.

Disappointed shall we say. It won't even install !

I have checked for updates on Safari, but after downloading the latest version of 1password I get the error message :

1password does not have permission to write to the applications directory !

with the option of trying again next to it.

Bad enough I think but not answering emails and turning everyone over to the forum really stinks. How lazy is that ?

Welcome to the forums, ke35! Thanks for taking the time to post, and I am sorry that you are having trouble.

I wish the forums allowed us to be lazy. We have all been working nearly around the clock since Lion was released. I am just about to wrap up my 12 hour day today, and I know the developers haven't even taken a single day off in weeks. This is definitely one of the hardest working teams I have ever had the pleasure of working with.

    That said, let's get your 1Password installation straightened out. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Could you attach a screenshot of the error message to your reply to this post?

Let's make sure you are installing it correctly. First, download 1Password from our website:

    http://agilebits.com/downloads

Then open the ZIP file in your Downloads folder. It will extract the actual application. you can then drag the 1Password application to your Applications folder.

If this is where the error is occurring, there is a bigger problem on your machine than 1Password. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' />

You need to be able to write to your Applications folder or you won't be able to install 1Password or anything else. Please let me know how it turns out and post that screenshot, so I can better assist you.

    We'll get this resolved quickly.

    Cheers,
  • one reason to go to a Mac is because Apple stuff is just meant to work - and I think that is what all the users on this forum are asking for.

The link you have suggested come up with :

    Release notes

    1Password 3.7.2 requires Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard).

Looking for 1Password 2 for Tiger or 1Password 3 for Leopard?

Browser extensions provided for many modern browsers.

Does this include Lion ? If so please reassure me on the web site ( NOT on this forum ) because it seems to be Lion that is causing the problems.

I might give it a couple of weeks. What do you think is a reasonable time to what for your developers go overcome the major problems ?

    Andrew

Meant to work? Absolutely. Works all the time? Not a chance. Otherwise the Genius Bar would be unemployed. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

This means at least Snow Leopard. Usually Software Requirements are written as "minimum required." For example, if a developer writes that their software requires 512MB of RAM, that doesn't mean that it won't work if you have 2GB. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'm not aware of any remaining major problems with 1Password 3.7.5. If you are still having difficulties please let us know and we'll do our best to help you through them.
