Still big problems after latest updates

Hi - I'm running Safari extension 3.7.b10 with Safari 5.1 on 10.6.8 and still getting the same bugs as before recent updates:

1P (3.7.2 build 31099) still often says "problem" with database when attempting to use

1P requires password after each launch of Safari

1P still asks to remember passwords for sites that are already saved
This is getting frustrating!

    Hi Zach,

I can understand your frustration, we hate seeing our users not having 1Password working for them. Our developers have been working hard on an update that should, once and for all, resolve the problems surrounding database problems and I'm pleased to say that this is now available.

To get this new update please go to 1Password > Preferences > Updates and check 'Include Beta Versions' and then click 'Check Now' to get our latest update.

Once that's done, please update the Safari extension to the latest version by performing a manual update within Safari > Preferences > Extensions as we detail at the bottom of this guide:

    http://help.agilebit...all_update.html

With some of the new changes in the update, there are few extra steps to follow. First of all, please go to Help > Troubleshooting > Restart Agent within 1Password and finally restart Safari to ensure the extension is properly reloaded.

Please do let me know that turns out, and thank you for your patience while we've been working on getting everything working.

Thanks for replying to this post. I have been using 1password on PC and iPhone with no issues for about a year now. I finally made the switch to a mac last week and have since purchased 1Password for it today as my trial period ended. I don't mind buying a new license for it as I know that it takes a lot of work to make different versions for each platform. I say all of this to reiterate my displeasure with 1password for the last week or so due to the constant nagging about saving already stored passwords. I read this post and added BETA updates as recommended; so far so good. It seems to be working and has not yet asked me to save a password that I already have stored. I guess the most frustrating part about all of this is that we hold an application such as 1password to a higher standard and thus pay the higher price for it and we "just expect it to work" all the time. Thanks for getting this taken care of in the beta and hopefully there won't be anymore issues.

    Thanks for the update, Zach.

The first two issues where hopefully fixed by the update we just published a few minutes ago. We found a situation that would prevent Safari from communicating with 1Password; Scott was having the exact same issue (it was related to Fast User Switching) and we fixed the problem today. We also updated several sections of code that could have also been the culprit.

I hate to sound like a broken record but it would be awesome if you could update to the latest versions and see if they fix your issue. As of this writing, the Safari extension is at 3.7.b13 and the main 1Password app version is 3.7.5 beta 3. Please be sure to enable betas in the 1Password > Preferences > Updates window if you haven't already.

As for issue #3, we have a fix planned for this. For now, please disable Safari's password autofill feature in the Safari > Preferences > Autofill window.

Please let us know how it turns out. Thanks!

    Hi Team,

Thanks for the continued support. I can confirm with Safari extension 3.7 and the latest 1P v3.8.0.BETA-1 (build 31107), the following problems are still occurring:

"Problem with database" error - restarting Safari fixed it this last time, but still very annoying

Asking to save logins to sites already saved

Not asking to save logins to new sites

Inconsistent locking of Safari extension - when is it supposed to lock / stay unlocked? Often it's locked after being used recently, other times (like this recent restart of Safari after the database error) it does not prompt for unlock password. See attached for my current settings.
I have performed the steps under troubleshooting frequently, FYI.

    Thanks,

    Zach

    Hi Zach,

When you get the "problem with database" issue, could you please launch Activity Monitor (in Applications > Utilities) for me, and make sure there is a listing for 1PasswordAgent?

It sounds like you may be having some trouble with the agent that allows the Safari extension to talk to the main application and the database. Problems with the agent could cause all of the issues you mentioned.

    Thanks

The agent is always there. Here is a sample of the process taken seconds after Problem with Database occurred.

And here is a sample of the process (attached) taken immediately after one of the many "Save this password?" alerts on a password that is already saved.

    Hey Zach,

Much has changed since the middle of last month when you last posted. Can you confirm for me the version of the Safari extension you are using? Try switching to the latest beta extension (especially since you are already using the beta application).

Remove the current Safari extension

Click this link in Safari

On the resulting page, check the box to “Allow beta extensions”

Click the download link for the browser you are using. (Safari in your case, but you can also do this in the other browsers as well.)

That should clear up any error messages you were getting.

To resolve the "Asking to save logins to sites already saved" issue, please ensure that you have Safari's autofill for user names and password disabled as mentioned in the User Guide:

Please let me know the URL where you are seeing the "Not asking to save logins to new sites" issue.

Could you give me a set of steps I could take on my machine to try to reproduce the locking issues you mention? How soon is recently? According to your settings, you would need to not touch your mouse or keyboard for 16 hours in order for 1Password to lock by itself. Otherwise, it should remain unlocked. Is there a certain time frame in which you see the lock occurring? Please let me know if you are able to consistently reproduce something using the latest beta of 1Password and the Safari extension.

    I look forward to resolving things for you. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

Thanks for your reply. I am using 3.8.3.b1 and still getting the error. I also reinstalled the plugin and tried all troubleshooting steps in succession and the problem is still occurring about 1/3 of the time.

I paid for 1Password 2 and then paid for the upgrade to 3, so I am really expecting more than this.

    Hi Zach,

How often to switch between regular and private browsing mode? I have seen the problem with Safari database happening a lot when using the private browsing mode.

Hmm - this is a shared computer so private browsing mode is used. Is there a fix in the works?

    Thanks,

I also have issues whenever private browsing mode is enabled then disabled.

This has been going on since Lion launched, why is this STILL not fixed!?

    Irritating as hell :/

I was hoping this problem would be fixed in OS X 10.7.1 update but it looks like we will have to wait a bit longer.

Thanks again for reminding about this problem. I posted another message to Safari team about it.

I am going to lock this thread because it started more than a month ago and switched to different topic. Please start a new thread if you have any questions.

    Thanks!
