• Thanks George!

I like it too. Hopefully, the additional search functions will help members more quickly find what he or she is looking for.

    Cheers!

It's looking great. But can we please get rid of that "like" button. Or are we on Facebook now?!? I hope I don't have to explain to you guys that having "+" and "-" as opposed to a single "Like" button opens more possibilities to rate and allows the reader to get a much better picture of what post might be relevant or irrelevant.

Could you switch back or at least elaborate on why this functionality had to be cut?

Besides that loss, the forums looks nicer now - but that is not related to the now missing functionality of the + and - button.

EDIT: Also it appears, my avatar picture is broken now...

We would have to make custom modifications to change or remove the "Like" button. I'm not sure it is worth it. It keeps things more positive. No one can receive negative scores, only positive. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

Have you tried re-adding your avatar? I'm not sure what would have happened, but if you can't get it back on your own, shoot me a PM. I will look into it.

    Well, maybe. Positive attitude... fine.

But how come that a person that never posted starts with 10 Likes, and I have only 1??? Did I get -9 somewhere?

    (or -99999 ?) <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

BTW: Is there a way to view the draft posting before actually posting it? (or do I have to press 'more reply options' first.)

Later edit: Hmm, I see "review post" (or similar text) when I post a new post. But not when I replied (e.g. to this thread)
  • khad

There are plenty of things about the new version that we are all still learning. There are some ups and downs as with any software upgrade.

I believe you need to click "More Reply Options" if you want to preview your post beyond what the WYSIWG editor provides. I'm not sure why you would need this with what is essentially a live preview as you reply, but it is there if you desire it. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

For more details, check out the "Help" link at the bottom of every page. I'll be happy to help as much as I can, but there are probably a million features that I just never use. My goal is simply to enter text and help customers as best as I can. I don't usually spend much time fiddling with things. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

Also, I don't think it really means anything, but I just gave you ten bonus reputation points. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_tongueout.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-P' />

I also awarded you 50,000,000 AgileBucks which are not indicated anywhere on the forums but can be redeemed for well wishes and hugs. Hugs are 100,000,000,000,000,000 AgileBucks and well wishes are 49,999,999.

I know. Think positive and all but this flaws the whole system. We don't live in a world where everything is positive and not every forum post is great and positive. Some are even bad or don't provide any insight at all so that would waste the time of the people reading them. Why not downrank such a post and thus uplift the overall quality of the forums?

I know engadget and many others have the same rating system (the whole disqus comment system I think as well). But that's why I prefere IntenseDebate. Having only positive ratings makes the system useless, imo. I completely disagree with positive only. This is not helpful in any way and has no reflection in real world life as well. There is a reason why both attributes "positive" and "negative" exist. The facebook-ish idea of like is nice but reduces the system functionality and leads to immature users and also cuts their maturity in no longer being able to also raise their voice against a statement.

But as it looks that is the world we are moving towards in general: sure, you can participate, but don't raise objections or any negativity - then you'll get kicked out. I find this concept rather bewildering. But hey, I'm not on facebook so I guess I am a freak anyways.

"Downranking" never did anything on these forums anyway. I guess it made some people feel better to give someone "negative" feedback, but it was purely psychological.

You are proposing a completely new system, but I don't think we are switching away from IP.Board any time soon.

For the record, objections and complaints are thoroughly welcomed on these forums. Being a menace to employees or other customers is not — regardless of any ranking system or lack of one. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
  • "The facebook-ish idea of like" is sooo easy to ignore ! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_evilgrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=']:)' />

Thanks for your feedback. Sure thing and no worries.

But I for myself find it harder and harder to ignore the like buttons on every single webpage I see. I try to block all facebook connections and have block a lot of facebook stuff via little snitch and/or adblockers but they become more and more intrusive every day.

Why preview? (When I just reply by 'Quote', the preview does not show)

Let's see if the demonstration works:

    This is only a test --> "1Password is great (I am at OSX version 10.6.7) (I had problems with 10.6. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0103-cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='8)' />."

I am NOT reviewing my post. (well, actually I am, just to see if the 'demo' worked, Yes, it did (the 'emoticon' appears only after the screen refreshes).

Hey! Even in fairytales you get at least 3 wishes!

    Oh well, I guess I have to save this only-one for your birthday. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Not everything is available in the live preview, but try bold, italic, etc.
  • IPB 3.2 lets you turn off the "Like This" button and use the normal reputation system. It is under the "Reputation Type" setting in the ACP <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thanks for the tip! Perhaps we will take a look at that once we are all caught up replying to all the forum posts.
  • No problem, wasn't really me. I have a friend who works for IPS, he saw this topic and asked me if I could post a response so that he didn't have to register as he knows I use 1password
  • khad
    khad Social Choreographer
That was nice of your friend to volunteer you for that. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Seriously, though, it was very thoughtful. We will keep the possibility in mind as we move forward!

Rebelinblue: thanks for making this info public. So now at least we are sure that Agile is free to get rid of the facebook-ish Like button.
  • khad
    khad Social Choreographer
Yes. It is an option. We'll think about it once all customers have been helped. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
