Sync between two Macs.

I would have guessed someone would have already asked this but I don't see it. Is there a way to setup syncing the data file between two Macs via WiFi or Bluetooth? I'm not a big fan of putting highly personal info on DropBox or MobileMe. Hackers have broken into banks, government, education, and businesses all over the world. DropBox and other "cloud" applications would be an excellent target being so many people are using it to store their password data files for not only 1Password but for competitors like RoboForm and SplashWallet as well. I would prefer to keep my datafile within my own secured network and devices.

Currently, I sync my iPhone via WiFi to my iMac. Then I sync my MacBook Pro to my iPhone. That's a pain. At one point I left the data file on the iMac and pointed the MBP to that target to avoid having to sync then sync again to a different computer but talk about slow! That lasted about a day before I ran out of patience.

So if I can sync my iPhone, why not two Macs? BTW…When 1Password is open, click on any device (iPhone, iPod, iPad) on the left side. The main window has an option to "Replace information on this iPhone." Below that states "When checked 1Password will replace information on this iPhone with information from this computer." Not a problem for me. I understand it. But I have gotten a few people to purchase this app that use devices other than an iPhone. I have been called and asked, "Hey this app says iPhone, but I have and iPad. What do I do?" Just food for thought.

    Hi Thomasj106,

The suggested way to do this is with Dropbox. I've heard of success reports from customers using other synchronizations software such as ChronoSync and rsync but I can't make any guarantees on these.

  • The advantage of Dropbox is that you can then access 1Password.html from your browser, unlock it and retrieve any password on the go, even without a 1Password agent on your phone, laptop etc.

I'm not sure other sync-solutions allow for such a possibility.

You should be able to sync the 1Password.agilekeychain data with any file syncing tool (ChronoSync, rsync as Ben suggested). Another good utility is Unison.

    Dropbox is much simpler though.
