No tags option when saving a login-Safari

In the previous version of 1Password, when saving a new login (at the top of Safari page), I got a space to assign a folder and/or tags to this new login. In this new version, there IS no tags field nor a folders field. Why was this taken away, or is my version corrupt? So now I have to go back at some point to assign my new login to a folder and to whatever tags I want.

Is there a preferences setting somewhere I do not know about? Any help here is appreciated, this software is SO wonderful.

Also, I am getting prompted to save when the password for that site already exists. Is anyone else having this issue?

Many Thanks,

Zoe

  • Tags and folders are currently not available within the new Safari extension, which has had to be written from the ground up to support Safari 5.1. We are hoping to bring these back with an update though.

The continual requests to save existing logins should be fixed with our latest updates. To get this new update please go to 1Password > Check for Updates from within 1Password which should prompt you to download the latest version, currently 3.8 at the time of writing.

Once that's done, please update the Safari extension to the latest version by performing a manual update within Safari > Preferences > Extensions as we detail at the bottom of this guide:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/safari_5.1_install_update.html

With some of the new changes in the update, there are few extra steps to follow. First of all, please go to Help > Troubleshooting > Restart Agent within 1Password and finally restart Safari, with Command-Option-Q if you're using Lion, to ensure the extension is properly reloaded.

    I hope that helps,
  • Thank you for your reply to this..and here is my report: I followed your instructions. My 1Password is now updated to 3.8. However the 1Password safari extension that shows up when I hit 'install extensions' appears as "3.7safariextz". I ran the update anyway, and I am still being prompted to save passwords that are already saved, so this did not really work.

Do I need Lion to get the Safari update to be 3.8? Am I the only one with this issue? Any further suggestions ..I would appreciate them. I miss the old way 1Password interacted with Safari..can you bring that back?

    Thanks for all your help,

    Hi Zoe,

You do not need Lion for 1Password 3.8.1, the extension is at 3.7 right now for Safari 5.1 on either Snow Leopard or Lion. If you were on Lion, the "Command + Option + Q" is required for Safari 5.1 to close completely.

Do you have Safari's Auto-fill enabled? Please open Safari > Preferences > Auto Fill and uncheck the box for "User names and passwords". That should stop 1Password from prompting you to save the same previously-saved Login.

Can you also confirm for us that you're running 1Password extension 3.7 in Safari? You can do this by opening Safari and go to its Preferences > Extensions > 1Password and there should be a version number.

I hope that helps, please let me know.
  • This has all worked it self out, I no longer get prompted for passwords I already have. Great! Now looking forward to being able to assign tags to my new passwords (in safari).

Thank you all for your responses and knowledge!
