Problem: After update to 3.8.0 agilekeychain gone

Hi All,

I am running Lion 10.7.1. After installing the newest 1Password update (3.8.0) and launching 1Password I was prompted to create a "new data file" or "find existing". After selecting "find existing" I as unable to find my old data file (1Password.agilekeychain). I even looked manually for the keychain in these two locations:

1) Macintosh HD, Library, Application Support (there was no 1Password folder here)

2) Macintosh HD, Applications, 1Password (I had to show package contents here), Contents

under both locations I was unable to find my data file.

The strange this is that the Safari extension is still working.

What to do???

I appreciate your help.

Tom

    Hi Tom,

    Welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'm really sorry to hear about this problem. Could you please walk me through how exactly you upgraded? Did you upgrade using the built-in updater or via some other method?

    Thanks

    Ben
  • Hi Ben,

    Thanks for the quick reply!

I used the built in updater: I went to 1Password > Check for updates. It ran its updates and then I believe it automatically relaunched 1Password. Then it prompted me to create a "new data file" or "find existing". Since then I have been unable to find my old data file.

    Thanks for the update, Tom.

You mentioned that the Macintosh HD > Library > Application Support > 1Password folder doesn't exist, which by default is where we store the 1Password.agilekeychain.

I'm guessing you have an "Application Cleaner" application installed and it accidentally identified 1Password as being uninstalled and removed it's Application Support folder. Do you have any applications like this enabled? Also, please check your Trash and see if you can find the 1Password folder as this is often where these applications move your data.
  • Hi dteare,

I don't not have any "application cleaner" applications installed on my computer. I have also looked into the trash and its empty.

Like I mentioned in my first post, my Safari 1Password extension is still working so the Keychain must be somewhere.

Is it possible that the file is hidden somewhere? I have also tried to use the spotlight search to find the agilekeychain without success.

    Whats the next step here?

    Regards,

    Tom

I have to admit Tom, this is very strange. The symptoms you describe sound very similar to those experienced when using a "cleaner" application (AppZapper, MacKeeper, etc). Do you have a Time Machine backup?
  • Resolved:

When prompted to "create new" data file or "find existing" I just created a new data file with the exact same master password and everything was back to normal.

In addition, I was unable to find my agilekeychain in my Library Folder as Lion hides the Library folder. It seems the library folder on the Macintosh HD is different from the Library folder in the home folder. To unhide the library folder in you home folder enter this into the terminal: chflags nohidden ~/Library/

    Thanks nonetheless.

Thanks for the update Tom. I'm still a bit puzzled as to why you would've seen that message in the first place, but I'm glad to hear you were able to resolve it, and thanks for posting the solution.
