Displeased with current evolution of 1Password

Sorry, I never believed I would say this...but since the Safari update, I would no longer recommend this product to a friend. It is so buggy and manual that it is now more work to use it than to just keep a cheat sheet. And yes, I updated/beta'd and restarted and did everything else that was recommended in the many many posts. 1P no longer even recognizes the current URL to offer a (several click) password entry.

I don't really buy the excuses... unfortunately, it's becoming just like ad aware and Norton...with one exception...I do get somewhat timely responses...just no solutions.

Sorry I don't mean to be a hater...I worshiped this product just like the rest of you.

oh the other thing...keep seeing updates that include fixes for german translation, Firefox support... I'm no brilliant strategist...but If I were running the team at Agile...I'd be focusing ALL my resources on getting these problems fixed...for Apple/Safari users, which I would think would be some of your "core" customers?
  • Well I, for one, am still recommending 1P!

The problems I had with the new1P beta builds and Safari extension are largely gone. Occasionally I'll run across a login which doesn't work but the easy solution so far is to just note what was the password (thank God for Copy 'n Paste!), delete the login from the app and save it again when I manually login.

    Even I can get how to do this. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Yes, it's been a bit of a rocky road for awhile, but things are coming right thanks to the unendingly excellent re-tooling of the necessary parts, coupled with unfailingly gracious customer care. I can't say enough good things on this score. I think about this,

and smile, every time I do Command \ , which is my favourite way to use 1P.

Hello Sir_Rockaby and welcome to the Forums!

I am sorry that you no longer will recommend us to your friends, but I wish there were some way to help you. I'm more worried about current customers than I am potential future customers.

It is obvious that you are having an unsatisfactory experience with the new Safari extension, but would you be willing to provide us with some specific details? Which URLs are not offering a "several click" password entry?

I searched for other posts from you, but I did not find any. What questions have you asked that have not been answered with solutions or attempts at solutions? If you sent inquires to our support e-mail, please let me know. I'll track those down and try my best to resolve your issues.

If you will reply with more information, we will do our best to help you.

I'd be pretty pissed off if they did that. I don't use Safari and with the current problem they're having with cookies I can't see me looking at it in the near future. Trouble is *most* people posting here are more than a little selfish, use words like 'hate' and 'disaster' and don't read the rest of the forums to see if a similar problem has already been mentioned. Well disaster is more like an earthquake that kills hundreds of people rather than a bit of software not yet working.

I went into my local supermarket yesterday and disaster, they'd moved all the shelves around. Well actually the shelves were where they'd always been just the stock on them had been moved so it took me twice as long to do my shopping.

I could of course go to another supermarket but that would mean learning a whole new set of stuff. Actually on the way out I noticed large banners explaining what items were in which aisle.

    Hello Catcher,

Thank you for your perspective. It is a bit ironic that I type this reply just a couple hours after the East coast of the U.S. experienced a 6.0 earthquake.

Luckily, I've not heard of any deaths related to the tremor, and having experienced more than one California tremor, I know that what happened today would be a non-event with our West coast brethren.

Regardless, we are working diligently to make as many requested changes as we can. Hearing that "the rules have changed" is not comforting to many, but we are only able to bend the current environment so much at one time. However, we do tend to figure out a workaround, if available, and I'm hoping that our past history of "finding a way" will be enough for the majority of users to have faith that we will.

Thank you again for your comments.

    Cheers!

  • (glad to hear east coast people are ok with the earthquake. CA native here so I feel ya)

I, too, am disappointed in the new 1password.

    1) I can no longer get my paychecks from adp's website using this program. It uses one of those pop-up log in windows that *used* to have a button to submit & add passwords. No longer. I had to resort to looking up the password (as I had made it extra difficult for security reasons) & had type it in. Now I'm just as vulnerable to phishing, etc as I was before the program! Used to be that Firefox still worked, but now with the new firefox & extension this is no longer an option. It doesn't matter if I use Safari, Chrome or my beloved Firefox... it just plain doesn't work for the reason I bought this program. If not for the need to update due to browser security, I would never have updated 1 password.

    2) several websites no longer work with this program & I am forced to use the separate, "did you forget your password" page of a site to use the program. These are mostly flash based sites or ones that use the new "pop-up" graphical login window like twitter was using & photobucket is still using (EDIT: although I just tried it & it worked so maybe it's been fixed in the most recent update - I haven't tried other problem sites yet).

    3) the new graphical interface is MUCH slower than the old (at least in firefox) pulldown menu bar item. even with the extra memory I installed it first has to render that lock screen (even if unlocked) then display my choices. lots of clicks, lots of waiting. I'm trying to commit to memory the auto log in keyboard shortcut but this still slows me down for sites like google where I have a personal account, a work account, & a school account.

It still technically works for most sites I use & I'll still use it (I think I have too much invested in this program both financially & time wise to switch right now) but if it keeps going in this direction of lack of features & slowness I am not happy & may switch to something else!

thanks for listening. I know you guys are working around other people's changes, but there's gotta be a way...

Hello pupspals and welcome to the Forums

First: Thanks for the well wishes for those of us on the "Right" coast. As a "Left" coast native, you would have fallen over laughing had you been here to experience "a couple of plates rattling...just a little". I remember "tiny" tremors in San Diego that made me almost wreck my car. However, for the uninitiated, I'm sure it was quite a "shock". Enough of the jokes...although, we could both on for hours, I'm sure. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I appreciate your feedback. If you've been around for the entire "Safari 5.1" saga, you will know that our UI has changed in both size, look and functionality since it's release. The changes were predicated on customer feedback like yours. So, it is important for members to voice his or her opinion.

We are working diligently to fix and/or find workarounds for our current supported browsers, but, it is not as quickly as I'm sure many users would like. Nevertheless, we can only try our best to adapt to the new rules of the road, and add as many features as we can.

Thanks again for relaying your thoughts. They mean more to us than you likely believe.

    Cheers!
