Stand-alone app crashes after unlocking

Started in the last couple of days .. running Mac OS 10.6.8 although I don't think the problem coincided with upgrading to the most recent build. The stand-alone 1Password app consistently crashes right after I've entered my master password and the "vault doors" open up. I can't do anything in the app, itself .. crashes too quickly for that .. and I also can't read the error message that pops up as it disappears too quickly. With many dozens of passwords stored, this could a be pretty serious problem if I can't fix things. The only other thing I've done differently in the last couple of days is that I installed the Thunderbird email client.

I've rebooted the machine several times but I've not tried zapping the plist file .. wasn't sure if that was wise to do with this program. Does deleting the plist file mess anything up in 1Password?

Thanks for any insight provided.

PS .. I was able to catch a screen grab while the error message flashed up for a moment. It's attached but it reads:

NSInvalidArgumentException

Exception: -[NSCFArray objectForKey:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance 0x1148f4860

  • Oh .. and I'm using 1Password 3.8.1 which I just updated hoping it would remedy the problem. I had been running the previous version which also had the same problem.
  • Hello frankiethec and welcome to the Forums!

I'm very sorry to hear that you are having this problem. However, nice job getting that screen shot! I know how quickly that notification windows disappears. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

It sounds like your installation may be damaged. Many times, updating to a new version will not correct the problem.

So, I'd like for you to do the following:

    1. Download 1Password from our web site: 1P Downloads

    2. Quit your web browser.

    3. Open your Applications folder and drag 1Password to the Trash.

    4. Install the new copy of 1Password you just downloaded.

    5. Run 1Password, and then your web browser.

Your information is stored in a data file separate from the application, so it will not be harmed by this procedure.

Please let us know how it works.

    Cheers!

  • Brandt,

Just trashing the app didn't work .. got the same error message (oh, so briefly) before then seeing the spinning wheel of death and having the app crash. So, I went into the Preferences folder and trashed "ws.agile.-PasswordThumbs.plist" and "ws.agile.1Password.plist" .. probably could've done those one at a time but .... Then I reinstalled and started it back up .. seems to be working now.
  • Thanks for the update, given the files you delete it sounds like there were some corrupted preferences but I'm glad to hear you're up and running again.
