iPad device keeps showing up in 1Password 3.8.1's sync area, even though I'm only using Drop

Hi,

I'm having this strange problem with 1P 3.8.1 . All my syncing between my iPhones/1Pods/Macs and my new iPad 2 are done using Dropbox. WiFi sync is not enabled on any device - including my iPad - but my iPad (named iPad) continues to appear under 1P's Sync area, even after I delete the icon.

I've checked my iPad 2, and Dropbox sync is ON and WiFi sync is OFF, just like it should be. 1P Pro on my iPad is definitely syncing correctly, since I can create/change/delete logins on the iPad and have the changes immediately show up on my other devices.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Thanks.

Michael

  • Hey there, Michael! There isn't anything wrong. This is just 1Password on your Mac detecting 1Password on the iPad. It will not prompt you to pair them though unless you turn Wi-Fi Sync ON. No worries. Just forget about it and let Dropbox do its thing. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thanks Brent. As I said, Sync via DB is working fine on my iPad. I was just wondering why the iPad keeps showing up under 1P's Sync list. My iPhones and iPods don't do that, and they're set up the same way as my iPad.

  • I am sorry if I misunderstood. You are Control-clicking to Delete the iPad sync item in the sidebar and it is reappearing? This shouldn't affect anything, but it is strange indeed. Try Deleting it and then restarting 1Password. Please let me know how it turns out. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Yes Brent, that's exactly what happens. No matter how many times I delete the iPad icon under Sync, it keeps coming back after a period of time. And yes, I've restarted 1P many times.

    I'm using iP Version 3.8.1 (build 31115)

Edit: I've also emptied the trash, but it still comes back
  • I wonder if this is the same root problem as we've been seeing because of an older version of the extension that's somehow caching the data, all of it, and so even emptying the trash won't work. If you delete the extension from Safari, then empty the trash you should be able to reinstall the extension and have no further issues and the iPad will be gone for good.

    Hi Stu,

Sorry, I'm not quite sure what you mean by 1P's Safari extension as it relates to the iPad sync under 1P for the Mac. I thought they were distinct entities. Please explain. Thanks.

  • Michael,

I need to confirm this with the developers, but I think everything is synced to the Safari extension, including the devices you have in the 'Sync' section. An older version of the extension was incorrectly syncing these back even after they were deleted, but this should have been resolved already, what we've seen though is that some users need to remove the extension, then empty the trash, in order for things to be back to normal.

Got it Stu. Thanks for explaining. I'll try what you suggested and report back.

    Hi Stu,

It's been over an hour since I reinstalled the Safari extension and restarted 1P, and as of now, the iPad sync item remains gone. So your fix works great.

I'll post again if the problem.

    Thanks.

    Michael

p.s. - Did you know that the 1P extension doesn't appear under Safari's Browser Extension page (under Security or anywhere else I can find)? I looked there first until I remembered that 1P Mac had a section to install extensions. However, your competition is listed there; that's why I brought it up.
  • Michael,

Glad to hear the removal and reinstall of the extension did the trick for you.

As for why we're not in Safari's extension gallery, it's fairly simple, at the moment the extension can't be used without actually having 1Password itself installed. That may well change in the future, and if it is the case we should be able to include 1Password in the galleries for Safari as well as Chrome and Firefox.

    Hi Stu,

I didn't realize that the extension needed to be standalone in order to advertize in the Safari Extension Gallery. I thought that the RF extension needed a desktop component too, but I haven't used RF since my Win days several years ago.

I also had the trial for your 1P for Windows installed in my Win7 x64 boot camp, and it was great to access to my passwords there, but I must admit that paying for another client for an OS that I'll only use for gaming seemed a little ludicrous to my finances <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

If you only need to access your 1Password data on a non-Mac (Windows, Linux, etc.) infrequently, you might be interested in the 1PasswordAnywhere feature that is built into your data file. It allows read-only access in a web browser via a copy of your data file stored on a USB flash drive or in Dropbox.

Ah Khad, that's a great idea. I have DB set up already on my Win Boot Camp for 1P sync, but I forgot about the 1PasswordAnywhere feature.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

  • Hello Omen,

On behalf of Khad, you are very welcome!
