Backup wtih Time machine

i was reading the backup docs. I know i should exclude vaults from time machine. Seems to me that i do not have to exclude the back ups if they are on the disk, as all the vaults will be closed by your backup utility. so if i use your utility to back up every night ... exclude the main vault, but not the backup directory, i should always have a clean time machine backup of the backup made by your software ...

am i thinking straight? ..

    You've got it spot on. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

"Backing up the backups" is precisely what we recommend.

If we can be further assistance, please let us know.

  • I have been backing up my vaults daily to my iDisk, but I like this idea as well. Since Time Machine doesn't back up iDisk files, is there a way I can automate Knox to do a second daily back-up to a local disk?

    Hi mtimmer,

There isn't a way to let Knox create a second run to back up your active vaults to a local disk but you can use a secondary tool to copy your backups folder to any number of folders. A known freeware that can do this is Carbon Copy Cloner, http://www.bombich.com/index.html
