Safari 5.1 and 1Password 3.8.1 in Snow Leopard: Will not fill floating login panes
I am using Safari 5.1 and 1Password 3.8.1 in Snow Leopard 10.6.8
I have updated everything: Safari, 1Password, the 1Password extionsion (I tried both the beta and the regular release). When I try to log in to web sites that use a "drop-down" pane or a "floating" pane for their login, 1Password does not fill in the credentials. It is working on websites that use login fields in the "regular" page.
I have tried all the steps that I can find in the FAQs--like removing scriptingadditions, but no joy.
Any thoughts?

Hi dmertz,
Have you try re-saving the Login again for those sites? 1Password should work correctly for the floating panes. I just tried Crucial.com which uses a floating pane and it works.
Please try saving the login manually like this:
1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.
2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and select the "+" button in the upper right hand corner.
3. Change the title and make any notes (if desired).
4. Click the Save button in the upper right hand corner.
I hope that helps. If not, please share the sites with us and we'll take a look at them.Flag 0 -
Hello Mike,
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried following the steps outlined above and ran into another problem at step (2). When the floating pane requesting my login credentials is present, the 1Password button in the toolbar is grayed out, and therefore cannot be clicked. So I tried the CMD-\ shortcut, and this did indeed bring up the 1P extension pane. However, clicking on the "+" button in the upper right corner had no effect--it acted as if the extension did not recognize the click.
As a result, I could not complete steps 3 and 4 above.
I admit that this difficulty is occurring on a private website: my employer (www.dts.edu) has a site for students, faculty, and staff to login to personal information. However, 1P has always allowed me to do this until the recent spate of upgrades. Now I cannot use 1P to login to this site (and I have tried Safari, Firefox, and Chrome--making sure that I have updated to the most recent version of everything involved).
Any other ideas?

Hello Mike,
I did find another website that exhibits the same behavior: https://ipay.adp.com You will note that again with this website the 1P button is grayed out when the floating pane is present.
Also, I noticed that this website has another thing in common with campus.dts.edu--namely, they both use port 443 for the login process (if I am correct in calling it a "port"). For example, the URL that is called when you try to login at https://ipay.adp.com is actually agateway.adp.com:443: (at least according to the floating pane that Safari pops up).
Could the culprit be the use of this login protocol used by some websites? And if so, what changed in 1P that makes it unable to recognize these panes?

Hi dmertz
I apologize for the confusion. This type of login is called an "HTTP basic authentication" and is not currently supportable in Firefox 6 / Safari 5.1 / Chrome. You can read more here: #7
