contextual menu

First let me say having to go through this is not cool. This isn't a free app. They charge for it, they should support it. Joining a forum isn't support.

Now:

Maybe I'm outing myself as a technical idiot, but can someone explain what happened to 1P? I'm on an iMac with the latest Snow Leopard and Firefox 6 and the latest 1P. With the last version of Firefox, I was able to right click at a login field, a 1P contextual menu would come up and I'd fill the filed with a click. Now, no contextual menu. Even when I go to the little 1P icon in the menu bar, I click the little arrow, hit fill, and… nothing. Or almost always nothing. I think once or twice it's filled something. But mostly I now have to manually copy and past my username and then my password. It's like a whole new (awful) app. I have to be missing something, some preference or setting, what is it? Otherwise this once brilliant app now is ruined.

    Hi ecpix,

Welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> We do still provide email support as well, but we're very backlogged and as such the forums provide answers much quicker.

All of these issues have been discussed a number of times already if you do a little looking around here. I think Stu did a great job outlining the Firefox 6 extension changes here: http://forum.agilebits.com/index.php?/topic/7300-firefox-6-vs-firefox-5-why-is-the-functionality-different/page__st__20__p__41652#entry41652

As for items not filling... it sounds like you are clicking on the arrow, next to the title of the item. This takes you to the item details, it isn't intended to fill the item. Instead of clicking on the arrow, click on the title of the item.

  • Thanks for responding. Just a thought: Stu says "Right-Click Menus: [are] on our list of features to add, but right now we clearly need to focus on some of the core functionality such as auto-save.

I'm not a web developer or code writer, but i do have some experience with consumer interaction and it seems to me that in terms of satisfaction with 1P, filling is more important than saving. If you think about it, unless you have some interesting or unusual browsing habits, the number of logins you'll need to save is more or less limited. Granted, it's a lot when you first buy the app, but after a while, the need to save trails off. BUT, filling is a constant, everyday - sometimes many times a day - function. For me personally, the numbers are approx: needing to fill a field about 10-15 times a day, and needing to save a login once every week or two.

Maybe there's an excellent reason why saving is being prioritized in the development of the new version, but that's my two cents!

I'm not sure that I would say that saving is being prioritized over filling. I think most use cases involve filling much more frequently than saving, but from a new user perspective... what are you going to fill if you can't save? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Also I'm happy to announce that contextual menus have been implemented in the latest beta, if you are interested.
