Not allowed to use DropBox at work, how best to sync?

Hi,

I'm relatively new 1Password user. I started with 1Password on my mac, and really liked it.

I got a copy of Windows 1Password, to help out at work, and went crazy putting passwords into it.

I also have 1Password for iPhone. I initially populated iphone with Mac keychain, but now I've added passwords and not synced recently.

Will the WiFi sync, Mac to iphone, do a complete 2 way sync? If a conflict is found, say 2 versions of the same username, but with different passwords, what will 1Password use to break the deadlock?

Now I've got 3 installations with different keychains. I'd only have two once I get the Mac and the iphone to sync successfully.

After syncing the mac with the iphone, I'd like to sync the mac keychain with the windows keychain.

I'm guessing that I could use Unison to perform the sync?

Would that sync be a complete two way sync at the username/password level?

Does that sound reasonable to the group? Are there any recommendations from the group? Again, dropbox is not allowed to be used at my agency...

I think once I get one big happy 1Password keychain, containing all my username/passwords, I could use 1Password Anywhere off a USB token at work. How about using an iPod in disk mode to hold the keychain?

Thanks!

Dave

    Hi Dave,

    Welcome to the forums. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

The Mac <-> iPhone sync is indeed a true bi-directional sync with conflict resolution. In the event of a conflict, you will be prompted for which item is accurate.

It may be possible to sync your Mac keychain with your Windows keychain using Unison, but I don't know how well Unison handles bundles (so I don't know if it will do a *true* sync on the Agile Keychain) or if it has been updated for Lion. You'll want to make good backups before trying anything.

1Password does not support and we strongly recommend against storing your Agile Keychain on a USB device while 1Password is using it. Its fine to use a USB device to keep a copy of your data, or to move it between computers, but when it is actively being used by 1Password it really needs to be on the hard drive of the computer that is using it. That is why Dropbox is so great -- sorry to hear you aren't able to use it. Running 1PasswordAnywhere from a USB drive (including iPod in disk mode) would be fine.
