1 Password is creating MORE problems than it's solving these days....

I am truly longing for the beginning times of 1Password. Times as it was a transparent application.

Today it does nothing than get in the way and make sure that my blood pressure continues to rise.

Since agile started with their fancy Safari Extension - addressing passwords has become hell.

1) I cannot log in to ANY of the protected pages/areas where I used to be able to log in to.

2) Today - I am logging in to a forum. Before hitting the log in button, I make sure I save the log in inside of 1Password via the extension.

Then I log out and try to get 1PeeWord to log into that forum I just saved. Only the login which I even NAMED is no where to be found.

Then I quit safari and launch it again -- And now it could be found.

This is PATHETIC..... in its truest terminology !!!!!

There are many more issues that I simply dont care to address here. I see 1PWD updates just about EVERY time I haven't used my CPU for 24 hours. Only the updates released by Agile

is more about fancy features than robustness. Unfortunately.

I am now converting all my logins and passwords to the ROBUST application WALLET which I left behind for 1PWD years ago. However, now that 1PWD and Agile seem more interested in pleasing Steve Jobs' sick enthusiasm for Eye Candy and totally are loosing what 1PWD was all about. I NEED to find myself going back to something robust.

I wish I had never left Wallet....

  • Same here! EXACT same story!
  • I have never ran any of the silly browser extentions Safari allows. Anyone knows the whole Safari extention thing serves 2 purposes First it's for Apple use to steal ideas and incorporate them into their browser. Then it is for beginners to play with coding and so they can feel like they are players too.

When I find a 1Password browser extention in the mix it more than cheapens the product. It makes me wonder about its actual role as standing sentry over my computer security. Duhh you guys have lost it!

But you don't say what version of 1PW, OS X, and Safari you are using, any of you!!

Myself I am sticking with Snow Leopard, Safari 5.0.5, and 1PW 3.6.1, which are working fine for me, until things have settled down a bit.

Agile have explained why there are currently issues. That doesn't help if one is trying to use the latest versions, but it should be enough to prevent people making nasty posts and accusations of eye candy. They are facing a difficult situation. marknick, what would you suggest instead of a browser extension?

Yeah it's clear that browser extensions aren't really catching on <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Legit complaints like stuff not refreshing/saving right are one thing but the browser extension cheapens the product? Words fail me.

Latest Snow Leopard, Latest Safari, Latest 1PWD

Tried it on Lion as well... That is even worse than Snowy !!!

Same experience here. The latest version of the Safari 1Password extension, on both Lion and Snow Leopard, seems riddled with bugs. I have the 1P set to automatically unlock the keychain, yet I have to repeatedly type the password in. I've had information go missing because data wasn't transferred from the extension to the keychain. The command-\ shortcut often won't do anything.

The thing is, it's not like Agile accidentally released a buggy version. These are long-standing problems. Every time an update comes out, I hope these problems are fixed, but invariably, they're still there.

I cannot log in to sites by double clicking anymore, since the latest update. Heck, I couldn't even log in to this forum using my saved info, because 1PW can't handle Ajax-type logins - not even its own!!!! I can't log in to my bank or Time Warner (the only two I've checked so far) by double clicking anymore, so I have to copy and paste. I may have to start looking for a 1PW replacement. When updates make the most important program I own unfunctional, I get VERY nervous. It's already bad enough that 1PW doesn't work with Ajax-type logins. I'm using the latest version of FF (that didn't help, either) and Snow Leopard, because Lion is going to hose my Quicken and QuickBooks versions. And the fact that we are now encouraged NOT to contact Agile via email now, and to just go to its support forums? What, is this tech support by user forum now? Wow. Not good at all. I expect that from Google (who has the SUCKIEST tech support in the world!), but not from Agile. And seriously, do you really want people expressing their displeasure and suggesting alternatives on your forum?

And there's the problem. Somebody has to be the first to try things out, but if you don't disturb a working system then you don't have problems.

The change to the latest Safari (even on Snow Leopard) required a change in the way 1PW worked. Agile had to deal with this quickly, and evidently are having problems. Same seems to hold for latest Firefox.

Myself, I don't plan to upgrade while here are so many forum posts, as that indicates a lack of stability.
  • Thanks for everyone's posts here, I'm sorry to hear you're all experiencing some trouble with the new Safari and Firefox extensions.

Let me start by saying that although we're encouraging everyone to come to the forums for support, mainly because often the issue you'll be seeing will already be mentioned in at least one thread and there will likely be a solution, we do still answer our incoming e-mail as quickly as we can as well as trying to catch up with our backlog so that everyone gets the response they deserve.

We love our users and I can tell you that the whole team hates the situation we're faced with right now, leaving our users waiting for replies makes us sad but we know we can turn this around and all we ask is for a little patience and understanding.

As has been mentioned the changes in Safari 5.1 meant that we had to rebuild our Safari integration, the work of about 5 years, into a new native Safari extension within about 2 months before Safari 5.1's release as part of Lion and an update in Snow Leopard. As you probably saw we were updating both 1Password and the extension as quickly as we could to fix issues and we're at a point now were we feel core functionality is stable, although there are certainly features we can to bring back.

Firefox is a slightly different story, there are some issues we're working on right now and we know this has been a bigger challenge for our Firefox users. The reality is that with Mozilla's new 6 week release cycle we were going to have to move to the new extension sooner or later, the old method required a completely new build of our add-on for each new Firefox release which is just not practical at all.

If you really feel you prefer the old UI then we'd recommend going back to Firefox 3.6.20 as Firefox 3.6.x is receiving security patches, at least for now, whereas Firefox 5.x will not receive updates now that Firefox 6 has been released, to help you do this we've made our Firefox 3 add-on available to download from our site along with instructions on how to install it.

For those of you wanting to either go back to the old Safari extension or Safari 5.0.5 itself, the short answer to this is that you shouldn't. Unlike Firefox there is no older version of Safari 5.x for Snow Leopard and Lion that's patched and supported, so everyone should be running Safari 5.1 if you're on Snow Leopard or Lion, it's just too dangerous to be running an unpatched browser in this day and age.

We're by no means done with the transition to the new extension, so please do keep watching for updates. I hope the above helps to explain the situation but please do ask any questions.
  • I'm especially disappointed that 1P's performance has the most issues with Firefox 6. Firefox is the only premier league browser that is not a marketing / data collection vehicle for some mega company so the fact 1P seems (in terms of known issues etc) least interested in keeping recent Firefox upgrades working with its new ideas makes me worry about how serious 1P is about their software being something that is supposed to make me independent on the web. Wallet here I come???

Hi Rupert. I appreciate your concerns, however I can reassure you that Firefox, Safari, and Chrome (in no particular order) are our top priorities.

    Also: on a personal note, I thought Mozilla was in Google's pocket?? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_lipssealed.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':x' />
