Want to disable master password!

I am the only person who uses my Mac. I don't like having to type in the master-pass word all the time. 1Password is OK for saving the passwords for all the urls I go to but I don't need the master-password. Can I do anything about it?

Hi Johnrtkach, welcome to the forums!
You can ask 1Password to never prompt for the master password in the security settings. Open 1Password and go to the 1Password Menu > Preferences > Security. Press the "Never prompt for Master Password" button to store the master password in your OS X's keychain. If you're using Safari 5.1, it should unlock with 1Password, please make sure that the extension has "Universal Unlock" enabled.

Please read the security risk prompt that it'll open when you press that button. If anybody can go to your computer, they can also open 1Password and view all of your private information.Flag 0 -
These methods have not worked for me. 1Password keeps asking for a Master Password when I try to launch the App through the Safari button. I have the prefs and buttons checked per the answer above. Simply put, when I try to open 1Password through the Safari button interface, I want no calls for a master password, ever. So what next?

In the same 1Password > Preferences > Security options can you make sure that the auto-lock settings are disabled and that you have both 'Disable automatic unlock' options unchecked.Flag 0

Is there anything else to try that might solve this problem? I have all the settings correctly set so I shouldn't be asked for a password, yet I frequently get prompted for a password. Auto-unlocking has never worked for me on Lion.
Please don't say these features work because you use them every day on your computers. It's really annoying to hear that because it's a fact that a lot of people are seeing this problems. It doesn't work on my computer; it doesn't work on my mom's computer; and it doesn't work on my friend's computer. (And they're still on Snow Leopard, so it's not Lion-specific.) I'm the one they complain to, and it's frustrating not being able to fix these problems for them.
I normally wouldn't hesitate to pay for an upgrade, but I'm really reluctant to spend money for a version of 1Password that in all likelihood won't fix these annoying problems.Flag 0 -
New versions of 1Password (including 3.9) no longer have this option ("never prompt for master password") available. We do not have any plans at this time to bring this option back in the future. I do apologize, but it is necessary to occasionally type your Master Password. You can control how frequently using the 1Password > Preferences > Security tab. If you uncheck the options for auto lock, lock when sleeping, and lock when screensaver is activated, the number of times you have to type your master password will be very minimal.Flag 0

Hey there, Soul_1210! I am sorry for the trouble. Unfortunately, we just aren't able to access the Mac OS X Keychain (which is where the Master Password is stored when using the "Never prompt..." preference) in this case, which is why the option is no longer available in 1Password 3.9 (Mac App Store version).
In the past, the OS X Keychain provided a place for us to securely store -- and access -- your Master Password. Obviously we don't want to just write it to a file or leave your data decrypted. I am a little confused about something though. You want to have 1Password not require your Master Password to authenticate, but you mention interest in biometric authentication. While we don't have any plans to support that at this time, I hope you will reconsider taking advantage of the security methods we currently employ, rather than leaving your data accessible until such time as we implement other options.
Another thing I want to mention is that with Universal Unlock, 1Password works a bit differently than it did in the past. Now the extension and the main 1Password application will lock and unlock simultaneously (unless the "Disable automatic unlock ..." settings are checked in Preferences > Security). If there is certain behaviour that you are looking for, please let me know in as much detail as possible so that I can help you get it working the way you want it to.
In the case of the Auto-Lock preferences, these only take effect if there is no computer activity, or in conjunction with the screen saver and sleep preferences if you are using those. Let me know your settings and I will be happy to assist you in any way that I can.
I encourage you to tweak your settings in 1Password Preferences > Security to fit your needs. I personally have it set to only lock after a long time has elapsed or when the machine is locked (sleep, screen saver). This way I only have to enter my Master Password initially when I start using it (essentially once per session), and then I don't need to again unless I leave my Mac unattended.
I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0
