Can't log into TD Bank from 1P on iPhone

Hello,

I can't seem to log in to TD Bank using 1P on my iPhone.

Not only does it not autopopulate the fields and log me in automatically (which I seem to remember it doing when I logged into Chase from my phone), but I can't paste my password into the password field on their site.

I hit the "Copy" button, but when I go to the website and hit "Paste", nothing happens.

Anybody having the same problem or have an answer as to why this is happening on this one site?

Thanks,

Justin

    Update:

Still can't Auto-Login to https://onlinebanking.tdbank.com/, but just noticed that I also can't Tap-N-Paste anything into the fields on that site.

1P on my Mac at least auto-populates the fields, but doesn't click the "Log In" button (even though in my save TD Bank login information it clearly states "FormSubmit: Log In").

I'm curious why my Mac can at least populate the fields, but my iPhone won't seem to interact at all with the site when the login page comes up.

    Any suggestions?

Sorry for the delay. I just tried this with my own TDBank account and was able to reproduce the problem easily. Financial institution web sites are tricky. They often use code designed to make things as difficult as possible for you 'n' me. =) In any case, this does look to be a limitation of the web browser. I tried logging into my account using Mobile Safari, a more robust web browser than the one built into 1Password, and it too could not save my login credentials and enter them for me.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you.

Unfortunately, I'm seeing the same behaviour with TD Canada Trust here in Canada. It works perfectly on the Mac, but the neither the access card nor the web password fields are populated when attempting to log in at https://easyweb.tdcanadatrust.com/

I hope you can look into this as my bank is one of the more important sites I'd like to use with 1Password.

Welcome to the forums, Rick and Rick! :)

This site is using frames to load in the login form. Right now, 1Password has trouble with some of these kinds of forms. We are investigating ways to handle these better for a future release.

But you're in luck: use this URL instead of the original one:

    https://easyweb47z.tdcanadatrust.com/main.jsp?lang=english&fromIndex=true

I don't have an account there, but in a test, 1Password was able to successfully save some dummy login credentials and then restore them correctly on command without any troubles on both the Mac and the iPad.

Works fine now using new URL . Still curious why it worked on an iMac but not on iPad

    HI Rickh11,

What you need to remember about 1Password on the iPad is that we're using a completely different browser to what you have on the Mac, it's fairly limited in the things it can handle compared with a desktop browser and this often presents some problems with certain sites. As Gita mentioned in an earlier posts, banks and the like seem to be intent on making the login process harder for the end user in a poor attempt to increase security, at the end of the day a good 'education' in password security is what users need, or to use 1Password of course :-)

    All the best,

    Hello all,

I am having trouble logging in to TD Bank Online with 1Password. It just won't accept my fill in despite all the correct credentials.

Any thoughts in what I can do?

    Hi Gazooo123,

I'm sorry you're having this problem. Currently, there is a limitation I believe imposed by the browser in iOS (and, hence, the WebView 1Password uses which is based on Mobile Safari) which makes it difficult/impossible to fill logins in frames. I tried pulling the login form page out of the frames as Marty did above with TD Canada Trust, but they have coded the page to not allow this. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

Are you able to copy and past the login information? That may be the only way in iOS at the moment. We are working hard to eliminate this issue, but for some of it, we are at the mercy of Apple.

I'm sorry I don't have a better answer for you at this time, but I hope that clarifies the situation a bit.

hello, I read this interesting thread and that's exactly the problem I have.

I'm not using TD bank, just a different one but the issue seems the same, I can open it with my desktop application but not on iPhone nor iPad. and I think mine uses frames too (http://www.fineco.it).

I can understand there may not be a solution at the moment but at least on my iPhone I have an useful button (the world) I can press to show user and password and paste it into bank fields (and yes, that works).

On iPad, instead, the world icon only opens a popup with all the accounts for that bank, and I've three (I'm not rich, I'm just keeping my parents ones <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />) and not the form to copy passwords. if I press one of them (or the one I need) nothing happens.

This is an even bigger problem as I recently bought an iPad for my parents so they can check their stuff and not being them very young it's not a wise thing to tell them "write user and password somewhere, open the bank site, type them in and destroy paper".

so I'm kindly asking, while you smart guys are working around a solution, could you please change the iPad "world" icon to reflect iPhone one?

for more info I'm using 1password Pro.

thanks, have a nice day. :]

    UPDATE:

I just noticed that the "paste" command is not working(<img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_star.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(*)' />) in 1p iPad browser (but it works in iPhone one). I've followed instructions to create the bookmarklet but it didn't solve the issue (and, still, switching several times from safari to 1p remains a too complex operation for old people).

the curious thing is why in iPhone version works but in iPad one not? I didn't study website very carefully but it doesn't seems it uses different versions for mobile devices (and I think there's no difference between iPhone and ipad's Safari).

(<img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_star.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(*)' />) not working in websites that give "this thread problem" (only on ipad, iPhone seems immune from this problem, even if fields are not auto-filled either), it works perfectly in the ones I can log in with 1p.

lock, have you tried copy and paste in iOS 4.2 on your iPad? Apple fixed the issue of not being able to paste into frames that I spelled out in another thread. You should be able to copy and paste your login information using the credentials curtain (the globe icon at the bottom of 1Password's built-in browser) now in iOS 4.2. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

hi Khad, thanks for answer. I tried 1P with 4.2.1 and it worked. it can correctly paste user and password in the fields and even if it's not able to do the submit it's not a big deal. I had the problem with my parents iPad that's still 3.2.

I didn't want to update it as Apple stupidly remapped the "no rotation" button to a new useless function but I guess the advantages now are more than disadvantages.

many thanks again, keep up the nice work.

I just got another problem with another website:

    https://secure.ingdirect.it/login.aspx?U=A

as you can see there are four fields called:

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$txtCodiceCliente

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$ucDataNascita$txtDay

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$ucDataNascita$txtMonth

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$ucDataNascita$txtYear

I manually added these fields in the App, with the correct values but every time I launch the website all four fields get the value of first one: ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$txtCodiceCliente

is it the field name too long? could this be fixed in a future release? thanks.

    Hi Lock,

I was able to confirm that it works fine in 1Password Pro on iPhone and iPad via the built-in browser.

    It should be:

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$txtCodiceCliente

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$ucDataNascita$txtDay

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$ucDataNascita$txtMonth

    ctl00$AreaContent$Login1$loginWizard$control_CheckCif$ucDataNascita$txtYear

As you mentioned. Maybe try creating a new Login again, copy and paste it again to see if that'll work for you.

    The URL should be: https://secure.ingdirect.it/login.aspx?U=A

Please make sure that there's no spaces at either end when you paste it into 1Password and let me know if it works for you.

thanks for your answer, MikeT. I did as you said but it still doesn't work.

I created a new login and I've pasted all the text in your post, as you can see in the first screenshot (of course data is invented).

But once I launch the website via internal browser you can see in the second screenshot that only the first value (username) is used and replied to all other fields.

I don't know if this may be a localization language bug. I'm using a non jailbreaked iPad 4.2.1 (32 GB, 3G) with italian language.

    lock,

It looks like you might find success if you just remove the first two values for username and password.

Although, if you are syncing with 1Password for Mac, it would be best to manually re-save the login on your desktop and sync it over to your iPad just to make sure the fields are properly named. On your Mac:

    1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.

    2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and choose Save Login.

    3. Set the Action field to Create New Login (or to Replace <login-name>, to update an existing Login item).

    4. Click the Save button.

Using the above technique I was able to save and fill a sample login in Safari at:

    https://secure.ingdirect.it/SessioneScaduta.aspx

After syncing the login login to my iPad, 1Password for iPad also filled all the fields correctly in its built-in browser.

I hope that helps. Please let me know.

    Thanks!

    Hi Lock,

On Khad's behalf, you're very welcome!

That's certainly the plan for the future, we want to bring as many of the features of 1Password for Mac to the iOS versions, particularly the iPad, which as is the case with your parents seems to be becoming a great replacement for a full blown computer for a lot of people.

As you may know, we can't currently integrate 1Password with Mobile Safari because this doesn't have the same extensions framework as the desktop version of Safari does, although that may change one day but the court is really in Apple's court on that one. So, our plan is to make our built-in browser better, add more features and as much as possible make 1Password on the iPad a complete secure browsing experience, so much so that you may only need to use Mobile Safari for sites that refuse to properly identify a browser based on it's capabilities rather than the name it supplies.

So, keep your eyes peeled here on the forums and over at http://blog.agile.ws because we often give sneak peaks of new features, and of course the nature of the App Store means that all updates to 1Password for iOS will be free of charge.

thanks for your reply, Stu, I was suspecting limits are there because of Apple. ;P

I remember in an old version of iPhone 1p (maybe it's still there, not using it on iphone since a long time) there was a way to have a popup panel where to show and copy login data, so to paste it in the page. I'd like to have it back on iPad because I found myself in need of that on several websites, like:

    - a lot of high security websites (mostly banks) are now requiring password typed with an onscreen pad, my last posts bank website is an example: after that strange login form I get a keypad (khad's screen on previous post was an "expired session" page but it's normal if you try to login several times) so I've to keep in mind the code. having a popup panel will make life easier (of course I remember my bank's code, just thinking about my parents). :]

    - I recently opened a new bank account and now, as a password test, they gave me a paper with like 30 codes. when I access I need to enter some digits of one of these codes (i.e. 3rd and 4th of the 12th code). yeah, getting very complicated. I scanned the paper (credit card format) and keep it in my wallet but it would be great if 1p for iPad could also store some small images and show them in that popup panel.

I hope I was clear enough in explaining the suggestion, my english is not as good as I'd like. ;]

you're right but popup only serves as a reminder for those passwords that can't be inserted automatically with 1p (the previously mentioned keypad ones, as in the attachment).

and image is like the second pic, my new bank asks me like "the 3rd digit of code #12". so the only way to see it is to show the pic for a short while. having it on the popup panel will help a lot.
