1Password, Lion, Dropbox

Dear Forum, I have installed 1Password on my new iMac. In the past I have used it successfully with Dropbox on my iMac and iPad for some reason it stopped. I tried to find the data file in dropbox but with no success. When i look at the link for the data file it gives me the following: Privat/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain_folder

Can you please guide me through how to get my passwords back.

Welcome to the forums, San! I am sorry that you are having this problem.

Is that the full path listed or the relative path within your Dropbox folder? For example, the full path listed in 1Password's preferences for my data file is Users > khad > Dropbox > 1Password > 1Password.agilekeychain

If the "Move to Dropbox" button is active, please click it. If not, then your data file should already be in your Dropbox folder. Right-click your data file and then select "Show in Finder" from the contextual menu.

Verify that the data is within your Dropbox folder.

Rename your data file to remove the trailing "_folder" at the end of the extension by pressing Command-I with the file highlighted. That will open the "Get Info" window. Edit the "Name & Extension" field to remove the "_folder" at the end.

When prompted, confirm that you want to change the extension to ".agilekeychain"

On your iOS device, reset Dropbox syncing in the 1Password app. Open 1Password and then tap Settings > Sync > Dropbox > Account > Reset.

That should get you up and running. If you are still having trouble, could you please email us your Diagnostics Report? To generate the report from 1Password on your Mac, open 1Password and select Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report. Then attach the entire file to an email to support@agilebits.com.

Please include a link to this thread in order that we might more quickly "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, though.

    Thanks!
  • I posted in another thread about a problem getting a new install of 1Password (new user) from Mac App Store to sync via Dropbox with 1Password Pro on iPhone. I came across this thread and noticed, Khad, your keychain file is stored here: users/khad/dropbox/1password/1password.agilekeychain. When I installed 1Password from the Mac App Store it defaulted to users/mark/dropbox/1password.agilekeychain. In other words, my keychain file is sitting in the main Dropbox folder. Could this be why my Dropbox sync on my iPhone and iPad isn't working? Is it trying to find the keychain file within a 1Password folder on Dropbox?
  • Hi

I am getting same problem as Mark S - file in different location. There is no right click context menu to change its location.

I did not upgrade to the latest 1password before installing... maybe a reboot will help.

Same for me. New install from MAS and I have my Dropbox directory stored at a custom location (e.g., not the default ~/Library/Dropbox path). Clicking 'Use Dropbox…' results in this beautiful error:
Failed to copy '/Users/cclauset/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Documents/1Password.agilekeychain' to '/Users/cclauset/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain': Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=512 "“1Password.agilekeychain” couldn’t be copied to “Dropbox”." I suppose that I could create a symlink to ~/Library/Dropbox to potentially workaround this issue…
  • Came up with solution here:

    But the question of for current users remains: Is there a possibility to put 1Password.agilekeychain in Users/Myname/Dropbox/1Password/ again ? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> (without installing the complete app etc ...... <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_yes.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(y)' />

Because of sandboxing restrictions with 1Password 3.9 from the Mac App Store your Dropbox folder has to be in the default ~/Dropbox location, that's the only place we have an exception to read and write data to apart from the container for the 1Password Helper.

You can move your Dropbox folder back to the default location by following this guide from the Dropbox team.

I don't believe that will work, the Dropbox folder has to be in the default location, no symlinks.

At the moment, new installs of 1Password 3.9 from the Mac App Store will store your data file in the root of Dropbox, unless you were previously syncing to a subfolder. I know Roustem is talking about setting the default to be ~/Dropbox/1Password in an update, but for now we do have a guide on how to use a subfolder, it's fairly complicated and so you need to be confident in what you're doing to use the steps.
  • Hmmm. My 1Password.agilekeychain file is in a 1Password folder on Dropbox. I didn't do anything custom to make that happen. It was set up that way when I first started using Dropbox syncing last year. It appears to be using that location fine. When I look in preferences it shows the path: users/kallemia/Dropbox/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain

    Is this ok?

    kallemia,

I can't speak officially... on is it ok,

All I can say is I also had mine set up for years and all of my Macs picked up the same location as you (mine is also in a 1Password folder)

I am not having any issues with this setup.

The only thing I would suggest is that you check the hidden file in the Dropbox folder (.ws.agile.1Password.settings) which is used for iOS device syncing and make sure it is pointing to the correct location. You can view the file with textedit.

Mine is pointing to 1Password/1Password.agilekeychain yours should as well based upon the location you gave above.

    Hope that helps some.
  • Thanks, Tommy. If I had remembered what Khad had posted earlier, I wouldn't have asked the question. My 1Password seems to be working fine, except for folder deletes and not being able to put items in folders and have them stay there...
