I'm trying to upgrade to 1password 3. Instructions say it must be done within 1password 2. But I'm unable to open 1password 2 because of an error message saying "new data format required." I get the same message when I try to open 1 password 3.



Appreciate advice.

It sounds like you might have been using a VERY old version of 1Password, which will require another conversion first I am afraid. Please [url="https://d13itkw33a7sus.cloudfront.net/dist/1P/mac/1Password-2.5.8.dmg"]download and install 1Password 2.5.8[/url] to do the initial conversion. Next, you will need to [url="http://aws.cachefly.net/aws/dmg/1PW2/English/1Password-2.12.1.zip"]download and install 1Password 2.12.1[/url] and go to 1Password Preferences > Keychain and click Switch to Agile Keychain Format to begin the conversion. You will need to click Allow to migrate each of your 1Password items, but once it is done your data will be ready for 1Password 3.

Got it, except for one problem. My "secure notes" are stuck in v. 2.5.8. They did not migrate to 2.12.1 or 3. Many thanks.
