Exporting a note and Importing it yields to an empty import

Hi,

I recently tried the following on 2 PCs, both running 1.0.8.215 version.

I created a secure note on PC 1

I exported the note using .1pif format

I imported the note on PC 2 and got a message saying 0 login has been imported, and no note was created.

Is Export/Import restricted to logins and not notes ?

Thanks.

As shown in the 1Password interface and explained in How do I export data? in the FAQ section of the user's guide, you can export any/all item types to 1Password Interchange Format, and you can export only Login items to tab-delimited and comma-delimited text:

...and:
To export Logins and other items formatted as 1Password Interchange Format (1PIF) or to export Logins formatted as delimited text...
As explained in How do I import data? in the user's guide, you can import only Logins from 1Password Interchange Format, delimited text, and Roboform's "print-to-HTML" output:
To import Logins formatted as 1Password Interchange Format (1PIF), delimited text, or Roboform’s “print to HTML” output...
The fact that 1Password reported "0 Logins imported" was another hint that imports are limited to Login items.

I've advocated for expansion of our import and export capabilities for many months, which did result in the addition of 1PIF import and export—albeit with import still limited to Login items—but I still hope to see a complete solution in some future release.

In the meantime, there are two ways to move all your 1Password for Windows data from one machine to another:

[*]One-time transfer: Move the entire 1Password.agilekeychain folder.

[*]Dependable, secure, automatic synchronization: Use Dropbox, as described in the following documents.

    I hope that helps, Merle.
  • Thanks, it does confirm what I experienced. I'll rather wait for the full import feature to be released, since it was just a single note that I wanted to import, and I've done that manually since then.
