Android Setup for new user (not using other versions of 1Password)

I discovered your software a couple weeks ago, and decided to try it out.

I used the QR code to download the Android version. When I start the app, I get prompted for an existing keychain file or a dropbox account. I have neither. There is no option to create a new one.

I suspect you have to be using another version on another platform to create the keychain file, and copy it to the Android device.

Will there be a Android version capable of running on it's own?

Thanks!

  • Hi Thomas,

At the moment 1Password for Android is read-only and does require you to be using 1Password for Mac or Windows, hence the 1Password Reader title. In the future we hope to have a fully featured, standalone, 1Password for Android application though I can't promise when this may be available.

I hope that helps clear things up.
  • Stu,

the only reference to "Reader" that I found, is on the application icon and flash screen title bar, not on any of the web pages. To be honest, once I found "1Password", i quit reading <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> !

Anyways, I was looking at the bundle pricing and had a question, why don't you offer a single and family pack bundle for 1Password on all platforms? Between my wife and myself (office and work), we have three Windows systems, two MacBook Pros, two iPod touchs, and three Android phones.

    Thanks,

    Tom
  • Hello ThomasW,

First of all, thank you for your interest in 1Password for Android.

As it stands today, 1Password for Android is designed as a 1Password Data Reader and works together with 1Password for Mac/PC.

It works as a vault providing functionality to store/review the data on Android phone and synchronize the phone with Mac/PC through Dropbox Server.

Therefore,if you need to create or modify your secure entries you should currently do it on your computer and synchronize your phone with Dropbox in order to see your

    changes on your phone.

The good news is that the fully functional version of the application is currently in development, this one will allow creating/editing entries on the phone

and two-ways sync with Dropbox.(Although it is hard for me at this time to give you a definitive time frame for the release).

You can find detailed information on Agile products on our company website and review the 1Password for Android application help.

Please let me know if you need more info.

    Best Regards,
