1Password Mac App Store [Answered]

Hi,

I recently bought the software “1Password” on the Mac App Store.

While I’m starting the application, a welcome window appears and proposes me two choices :

I am a new user

I have already used 1 Password
I choose option n°1 and then the application ask me to give a master password, to validate it and then, to validate my hint password. What I did.

When I click on continue, nothing happens.

FYI : I’m a Lion user

  • Hi Kali,

I just tried the very same steps on my father's user account on our Mac Mini, I've been meaning to set him up with 1Password for some time now anyway, and after clicking continue I was taken to the unlock screen.

Can you make sure that both your passwords match, sometimes I know I can slip up when typing the confirmation of a password.
  • I am having the same issue, but mine is a new install, never used the product before and despite numerous attempts, I am unable to get past the Master Password screen, pressing continue does nothing. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_angry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':@' />

I have seen this problem before and it was related to the permissions. Please try to use Disk Utility to verify and repair permissions.

Please check Console to see if there are any errors reported.

To add, for those not familiar, both of the tools Roustem mentioned are available in /Applications/Utilities.
  • I understand the move to the MAS and the need to "repurchase" the app to get on the bandwagon. But will current version 3 users be getting the new 3.9 and all the Lion enhancements?
  • I'm seeing the same problem as Kali. Continue button doesn't do anything (unless the passwords don't match or I don't fill in a field). 10.7.1
  • I purchased a 5 user combo license in July and have thoroughly enjoyed 1Password. I have not yet upgraded to Lion, but I will be doing so in the near future. What will I have to do to upgrade? Thanks!
  • I ran verify, repaired issues, still wont work.

    Hi there,

    1. Make sure you have the latest version of 1Password installed by using 1Password > Check for Updates. This install the latest version of 1PasswordAgent process. The latest version will automatically remove itself when the Mac App Store version of 1Password is started.

    2. Move old copy of 1Password.app to Trash.

    3. Install 1Password from Mac App Store.

The important thing to keep in mind is that the Mac App Store version is sandboxed and has very limited access to your file system. It can only store data in its Container folder (~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Documents/1Password.agilekeychain) or in Dropbox.

If your data is already stored on Dropbox then 1Password will keep using it. If you data was stored in the previously default location (~/Library/Application Support/1Password) then it will be automatically moved into the Container.

    Thanks

    Ben
  • I also tried using my iPhone to create a new db in dropbox, then launched on Mac and pointed it to there, it seemed to be opening, but shows app is running, but nothing came up, no windows hidden or anything.

Closed out of app, reopened, prompted to create or link new db !

Must say not liking this app so far.

Will I still have a 5 user combo license that I can use on up to 5 machines (Mac or PC, yes we have a PC as well)? If not, will I have to repurchase multiple Mac copies and what of the PC version?

Windows licenses are unaffected by the move to MAS.

You will be able to install the Mac version on as many Macs as you can afford. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Question #1 on this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4461

  • Thank you. I have enjoyed 1Password immensely and I have been telling my friends & co-workers about it. I appreciate the discounted price in the App Store especially since I purchased the 5 user combo bundle just six weeks ago. I have been waiting to upgrade to Lion pending the resolution of some Adobe CS Suite functionality issues. Any idea how long the discount might last?

    Hi irelander,

I'm not sure we've even made that decision internally. Certainly nothing is written in blood yet.

I can say that unfortunately we can't do 'rain checks' due to limitations in the Mac App Store. Once the discounted price is gone, it's gone!

Roustem is working on this. It appears to be either permissions or invalid short name related. More information to follow soon.
  • I have exactly the same problem, hope you will solve it quickly. I repaired permissions with Disk Utility. Here is Console's messages:

  • Hello. This question was asked previously laroquephoto, but I have not seen a reply. If I am an existing 1Password 3 user, is the only option to get 3.9 to repurchase the app through the Mac App Store? I would like to be able to use the features of the MAS (updates, always able to reload software, etc) but am not too keen on purchasing software I already own.

    Great!

Thank your for your OFFICIAL ANSWERS.

I have run this command as you suggested :
ls -FaBl@WeHd /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist
and this one just after :
chmod -RN /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.$UID/overrides.plist
So I don't know which one of these commands have solved the issue but it works now!

Thanks a lot and "Longue vie au Mac App Store".

    2. Move old copy of 1Password.app to Trash.

These instructions are a little confusing to me. In step 1, what is "the latest version" that will be removed? Is it is the 1PasswordAgent or the 1Password.app? If the latter why must the .app be moved to the trash if it will be automatically removed?

Welcome to the forums, Jamie. I'm sorry that you are having trouble with 1Password. I've not yet heard of the problems you describe, but I would love to get them resolved for you.

If 1Password unexpectedly quits again, could you email us the crash report? We would love to take a look at it.

When the focus jumps to the Browser Extensions section, are you working in folders?

If the data in the extensions does not match the data in the application, please try unchecking and then rechecking the option to "Keep helper running to enable extension features". Were you using a previous version of 1Password before installing the Mac App Store version?

    Please let me know. Thanks!

  • I have 1Password installed on three Macs running Lion. On two of them, I was able to upgrade from 3.85 to 3.9 on MAS. On the third, I still get the problem of not getting past the screen, I am a new user, or have used 1Password. For either option, I cannot get past setting up a master password. When I try to load data from Dropbox, message is that this is not a valid password. I tried to uninstall both 3.85 and 3.9, repair permissions. Then I went into Library and removed preferences and application support related to 1Password. I do not know what to do with the terminal utility so left that alone. After coming the closest I could to a clean install including re-downloading Version 3.85, I then tried 3.9 again without any luck. So on this one computer, will need to stick to 3.85 unless there is a fix. Agile says there is a 7 day turn around time for email response. That is fine, but there is no email address I could find. Looking at the number of similar posts, it looks like there is a bug in this software.
