Somewhat disappointed by the support documentation for Knox

I do like Knox (i have bought it after the trial period) and I love 1Password.

When I buy some software I like to totally learn about it and read the manual twice usually/look at reviews/forum posts etc.

However I must confess to be somewhat disappointed by the support documentation for Knox. i.e. There is hardly anything.Didn’t the previous developer have something. I’m a little perplexed by the suggestion that users create their own tutorials!.

Maybe it is early days and this will be fixed.

Hi apb123, and welcome to the forums!

Yes, we don't have everything completely documented yet because Knox is so new to us, but I believe we have copied over everything from the previous developer's documentation. The docs we have cover the basics, but do you have specific questions or problems not answered in the documentation?

    Welcome to the forums apb123!

I must confess that one of the reasons the User Guide is so thin is because I myself do not read guides very often. I like to play with the software and experiment. The other issue is every document that is created needs to be constantly maintained, otherwise it creates an even worse problem; i.e. wrong documentation is much worse than missing documentation.

I recently had a conversation with my neighbour about the iPhone User Guide; he was explaining how the iPhone does a terrible job documenting the phone and that he had to just use the device before being able to figure it out. This surprised me as the feature he was describing was clearly documented in the excellent manual that comes with the phone. It left me feeling helpless as Apple has a huge team of documentation writers and invest person-years of effort into the docs and yet my neighbour still felt they did it wrong.

With all that said, I understand that some people love documentation. We simply need to find a balance that gives the biggest bang for our investment.

What would help us greatly is understanding exactly what you would find useful in the User Guide. I think the Getting Started guide is great (please let me know if you disagree) but the Tutorials are very minimal atm and FAQs need a little more fleshing out.

Recently I saw some great questions (and answers!) about syncing data and backing up vaults so I've asked Gita to add them to the guide, most likely under the FAQs section. The other thing I wanted added was a detailed description of all the options available when creating a new vault.

Those are the 3 things I plan on adding but I'm not sure if these items would help address what you find lacking in the docs. Please share your ideas and we'll be happy to investigate this more.

I realize this a few months past but I'm just getting around to trying to figure out my software. These guides...where can I find them. My question is basic...I understand the point of the software (that's why I bought it), but I have no idea how to use it. The best I could do was to get a group of documents that I wanted to secure (they are on a USB flash drive) into a Knox vault. Now when I double click on the "knoxed documents" a volume opens on my computer but there is nothing inside.

So I guess I just would like a basic tutorial for encrypting documents and opening them.

    Thank you.
