MacAppStore version removed the Bookmarket creation option? [Answered]

Reading the help, it says the little gear in the bottom left should allow me to create New Logins Bookmarket:

No such option for me. Bring it back!

    Yes we had to take it away because it used Blowfish encryption and we didn't have the export license for it.
  • any plans on bringing it back? I used this feature many times a day!

    We never say never. If there is enough demand, and we can either work around the licensing issue or find a different encryption scheme that is just as strong, it's possible.

    Wow this just keeps getting worse. This is another invaluable feature to me and I didn't even realize it was gone because IIRC it's not in your big list of MAS changes to 1Password. For me the bookmarklet is my first choice and 1Password Pro is my backup incase the bookmarklet doesn't work. Flipping to 1Password, copying username, flipping back to the app, pasting, flipping back to 1Password, copying password, etc... is tedious and the bookmarklet comes close to solving that.

    I would love to see that functionality back as well. It's really the only good way to use 1P on iPad and iPhone. Switching to the 1P app every time, logging in, looking for the right domain, copying, going back, pasting, etc can easily take 10 times as much time (not to mention the password stays in the pasteboard, unless user knows to copy something else into it!).
  • Just bought the MAS version and this feature missing is huge blow to me. Prevents me from using my logins with Safari on my iPad.
  • I'd say there is enough demand. Please get started on exploring other encryption options.

    We won't let you sweep this one under the rug with a shrug.
  • Please bring this function back, its why i bought 1Password for iOS!

    1Password for iOS is a completely separate product. The bookmarklet is independent of that. 1Password for iOS should still function exactly as it has previously.

    Hope you guys figure out a way to bring the bookmarklet functionality back. It's extremely useful.
  • Please bring back the Bookmarklet functionality. I've switched back to version 3.8.5 just so I can continue to use this feature.

    I agree. Without the bookmarklet, there is a huge decrease in functionality for anyone with an iPhone/iPad. It's very inconvenient to switch between apps, especially if you are using strict 1Password security settings on the iPhone (locking when closing, ...).
  • I'm in complete agreement. I can't live without the bookmarklet. Please investigate another way to get it back in. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    Murlyn, the forum software is the latest version of IP.Board. Glad you like it. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

    +1 for bringing back the bookmarklet
  • I have upgraded to MAS version, and suddenly I see that bookmarklets not exists now. Please readd it !!! That is my only complain to your decision going to MAS only. For me, it's a big move to be in MAS, and I know it's a big headache to have several distributions methods.

    regards
  • I realized that I have 3.9 and 3.8.3 at the same time. Is it possible to use 3.8.3 to have bookmarklets actualized without troubles for the main dropbox keychain?

    I would also like to see the bookmarklet back.

    I'd be interested to know the issue around getting an export licence. From a quick Google of the matter, it looks like Canadian companies' products are generally exempt from needing an export licence if the product meets all of the following criteria:

    1. they are generally available to the public by being sold, without restriction, from stock at retail selling points by means of over-the-counter transactions, mail order transactions, electronic transactions, or telephone call transactions;

    2. their cryptographic functionality cannot be easily changed by the user;

    3. they are designed for installation by the user without further substantial support by the supplier; and

    4. when necessary, details of the items are accessible, and will be provided, upon request, to Canadian authorities in order to ascertain compliance with the above conditions.

    Not sure if this information is relevant or not, or has changed, but it looks like 1Password meets all of these. So, can we have our bookmarklet back? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

    I believe that is how we were able to do it previously, seaishya, but it seems MAS changes that (perhaps because Apple is now the company selling 1Password, not us?). I don't have a definite answer on that, but I can say for sure that A ) we are not currently allowed to distribute 1Password through the MAS with the bookmarklet creation option, and B ) we are looking into what we can do to change that,

    Thanks for the reply bwoodruff.

    Still don't really understand the issue though - there are plenty of apps on MAS that use blowfish (e.g. Data Guardian, Linkinus, mSecure).

    I'm not aware of any restrictions in the MAS review guidelines, and if you take a look at the developer guide (https://itunesconnect.apple.com/docs/iTunesConnect_DeveloperGuide.pdf) it tells you exactly what you need to do to get an app with encryption into MAS.

    (By the way, doesn't 1Password still use encryption technology even without the bookmarklet? What is it about the bookmarklet that makes the difference?)

    Sorry to keep digging on this, but a lot of people want this functionality back, and the issue preventing it doesn't seem that big a deal.

    I'm not an expert on export laws, but my understanding is that we need to acquire a license for the particular encryption technology that we were using for the bookmarklet before we can distribute it on the MAS. Apparently this was not an issue when we were the exclusive distributor.

    We are looking into this.
