"Find existing 1password file" [Answered]

What does this mean?

I purchased the version on MAS, started it and it asks for my existing file.

When I point it to the "1password.agilekeychain" in Dropbox, nothing happens. Blank desktop.

Help!

Comments

  • I’m in the same boat. There is nothing I can select in my 1Password Folder in Dropbox.
  • Update: I’m still not sure where my agilekeychain was, but I signed in as a new user, set a password, and all is well. The only issue is that I am unable to store my data in dropbox because the option is disabled in preferences.
  • Well, that doesn't make me feel better.

Hey Agile, please help here. Please provide instruction on how to "upgrade" from the "Agile" version to the "MAS" version.
  • same for me.

    I downgraded from 3.9 to 3.8.5.

I simply don't want to loose important data.

hope these guys at Agile release a decent app, where one can store data in a safe place.

    too bad!
  • Sorry you've been waiting for a reply on this folks, I'm pleased to say that this should be an easy fix as Ben notes at the bottom of this thread.

    To summarise from the post:
Sometimes the 1Password Helper will not be able to start because of a configuration issue. If this happens, when 1Password launches, you will be asked to create a new database and will be unable to see your existing data. When this problem happens, the following errors will be shown in the Console:
1Password: [39001] Failed to start 1Password Helper 1Password: [39001] Connecting to 1Password Helper
This problem is caused by extended attributes defined on the file below, and you can verify it in Terminal by running the command:
ls -FaBl@WeHd /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist -rw-------@ 1 markf wheel 376 Mar 10 2011 /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist com.apple.metadata:_kTimeMachineNewestSnapshot 50 com.apple.metadata:_kTimeMachineOldestSnapshot 50 0: group:everyone deny write,delete,append,writeattr,writeextattr,chown
If you see extended attributes on the file as shown above, you can run this command found on the Apple Discussion Forums:
chmod -RN /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist
Please note that the ".501" extension is your user id; if you have multiple users your id may be different. You can find your user id by running this command:
echo $UID

• This info really needs to be in the FAQ. I have three computers with 4 different users using the software and I had to do this for each user on each computer. Never had such a difficult upgrade with a product.

Nope - does not do it. This really needs to be fixed FAST!

Please run this command in Terminal and paste the output here as a reply:

    ls -FaBl@WeHd /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.$UID/overrides.plist
  • I run into the same problems, on my iMac is only one user (admin) setup so shouldn't be any conflict. I am unable to see the login screen of 1Password after i select the database in my dropbox folder.

Very very annoying and I agree with many here that this is quite annoying to spent hours for an actual simple upgrade.

Agile should have this tested a bit longer before launching 3.9 on the MAS.

Still we appreciate and hope that Agile address and provide clear solution for this problem (updated software) before we all are fiddling around with terminal commands and make things even more worse.
  • I downgraded to 3.8.5. I have no interest in beta testing or "try this" workarounds. I expect when I pay for a product, they've considered and tested common upgrade scenarios.
  • ls -FaBl@WeHd /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.$UID/overrides.plist

    -rw-------@ 1 dudley wheel 431 Nov 4 2009 /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist

    com.apple.metadata:_kTimeMachineNewestSnapshot 50

    com.apple.metadata:_kTimeMachineOldestSnapshot 50

    0: group:everyone deny write,delete,append,writeattr,writeextattr,chown
  • Just downgraded back to 3.8.5. I wasted half my day trying to get this upgrade to work. Completely unacceptable to have these problems. Clearly this upgrade and switch over to the MAS wasn't thought through fully.

Shame on you AgileBits -> No customer should have to mess around with code in the Terminal to get your buggy software to work.

You have let your customers down on this one. How do I get a refund?
  • Agile, how about an update, please?

    Hi folks,

As we've mentioned, this is actually Apple's bug. We've submitted it to them for a permanent fix.

clutch: Please run this command in Terminal:

    chmod -RN /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.501/overrides.plist
  • Nothing happened, returned to the prompt.

    Now what?

    Thanks.

That is what is supposed to happen. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> Reboot and try setting up 1Password again. If it didn't return an error message, that means it fixed it.
  • So, how do I re-download the app from the MAS?

    Thanks!

    Hi clutch,

If you have not already, move the /Applications/1Password folder to the trash. You should then be able to click the install button from the purchased tab in MAS next to 1Password.

    I hope that helps.

[s]No, the "Install" button is dimmed.[/s]

Nevermind. It's working now (there was a "1Passworld" folder next to the app that I overlooked).

    Thanks for your help.
