Helper "Open 1Password" not working

3.9 is up and running, using dropbox. Was pretty happy it just found an used my 3.8 setup just fine except that neither the "Open 1Password" option from the helper menu icon nor the "Launch 1Password app" from the Firefox browser extension (under setting) work at all. The 'Lock'/'Unlock' option from the helper works just fine - just can't open 1Password.

Any ideas?

    Same here, Console says:
1Password Helper: [39001] Failed to launch file://localhost/Applications/1Password.app: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4 "The application “1Password.app” could not be launched because it was not found."
Then when I copy 1Password from the directory /Applications/1Password/ to /Applications I get:
1Password Helper: [39001] Failed to launch file://localhost/Applications/1Password.app/: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=3584 "The application “1Password” could not be launched because it is corrupt."
I installed the MAS version next to the old one, and now I have a directory called 1Password in /Applications, I don't understand why.

Yes same for me all data transferred across ok from 3.8.5 to 3.9 but the option to open 1password from the Helper will not work

    is it a bug?

I can confirm that I cannot open the 1Password application from the helper application. Thanks for the bug report folks, we'll get it fixed up ASAP.
  • Odd...I can open it fine from the helper menu item.

However, if the 1P agent is also running as a leftover from 3.8.5 that might be the issue

    Interesting. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> 1PasswordAgent is not running on my system.
  • Also works fine for me. Not sure if I have 1PasswordAgent (not very bright & limited knowledge end user <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_worried.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':S' /> ).... but looked in the activity monitor and did not see it there.

Same issue here. Before I realized I needed to manually delete 3.8.5 after installing 3.9 on my iMac, "Open 1Password" under the helper menu worked, but it opened 3.8.5, not 3.9. Once I deleted 3.8.5 from /Applications, "Open 1Password" no longer works. When I upgraded to 3.9 on my MacBook Pro I deleted 3.8.5 before opening 1Password for the first time. "Open 1Password" doesn't work on that machine either.

Activity monitor shows that 1PasswordAgent is running on both Macs. I tried killing it from Activity Monitor to see if that would salve the problem, but it bounced right back. Ditto for a kill -9 [PID] in Terminal. It bounced right back with a new PID.

The running instance of 1PasswordAgent was ~/Library/Application Support/1Password/Agent/1PasswordAgent.app, which proved to be from 3.8.5. I moved it out of that location and was then able to kill the process, but "Open 1Password" still doesn't work.

I don't think 1PasswordAgent is the issue, but it seems to me that 3.9 needs to do a first run cleanup that deletes any older version of 1Password plus any other leftovers from older versions that are no longer needed.

    Same console message as Berklee:

    9/10/11 11:41:04.784 AM com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper: Sep 10 11:41:04 XXX 1Password Helper[83210] <Error>: [39001] Failed to launch file://localhost/Applications/1Password.app/: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=3584 "The application “1Password” could not be launched because it is corrupt." UserInfo=XXX NSURL=file://localhost/Applications/1Password.app/, NSLocalizedDescription=The application “1Password” could not be launched because it is corrupt., NSUnderlyingError=0x7f8c475a7c10 "The operation couldn’t be completed. (OSStatus error -10827.)"}

Note: I tried completely uninstalling 3.9 (3.8.x was already uninstalled and removed from trash), deleted the 1password directory under "Application Support" as well.

    [Solution-Workaround]

My 1password keychain was in my ~/Dropbox folder, but was not at the top directory (~/Dropbox/subdir/1password.agilekeychain) The location was auto-detected by 1password and everything worked right except launching from the helper. I move the file to the top directory (~/Dropbox) and it is now working. Seems like a bug somewhere in there.

We currently have a bug that will prevent 1Password 3.9 from being launched using menu bar if it is not located in the /Applications folder (/Applications/1Password.app).

This problem will be fixed in the next update.
  • Menu icon works for me the thing is...when I click it, it goes blue but doesn't have the drop down...and it will just stay blue and do nothing until I go into the activity monitor and force quit it.

However, if I click on it, it goes blue, I then click another menubar item and then click back on the 1password menu icon the drop down will appear...

    Weird...any suggestions?

I have this problem also of not being able to launch 1password from the helper. From what has been said I think I know the problem, but don't want to change things yet since I just got most of it working.

I installed 3.9 without removing 3.8 first. This caused 3.9 to be placed in a folder in /applications. It is the only item in the folder. I deleted 3.8 after installing so 3.9 is still in the folder and the launch does not work.

Can I just move it out of the folder into /applications without causing problems?

So I decided to do it anyway. I moved the 1password.app to /applications. It did not move. It copied. And left me with both versions. The folder had a .localized showing in get info?? Then I deleted the folder with 1password.app in it. The system made me give my administrator password to allow this. I did and it deleted. The copied app works and is still attached to dropbox. And the helper launch works now.

    Hi folks,

I would strongly recommend waiting for the next update with a fix rather than moving your 1Password around. Moving the app may cause troubles (i.e. with future updates).

    Thanks
