Master Password Problem

Good morning . . .

So, a few days ago, I changed my master password. Let's use abc to xyz for reference. Ah, should include that I'm running latest version of Lion and 1P. Then, when I went to open my 1P app with new password - no joy. Thought perhaps I'd spaced my new new password, or literally miss keystroked it the same way twice. But, and here's what I can't figure out: my old password, abc, still works when I use 1P icon to access sites. Fine, I thought, i must not have really changed it, missed a submit stroke or something, but abc does not open 1P app, either. So, to sum: abc works in browser. Neither abc or xyz opens app. I do not have master in my keychain (that was kind of the point, right?), and I can't find ~/Library/Application Support/1Password - that is, there is no 1P folder in app support, at all. Also, backups are being created somewhere, at least growl tells me so. I do have TM backups, and have not explored a restore from that, yet. This particularly a problem, as all of my criticals use complex, generated passwords that I don't have anywhere else. Please advise -

  • Okay, I just answered part of my question by reading the MAS 3.9 update. I auto update, so that explains why no folder in app support folder, yes?

And do I gather that 1P4 will be at additional cost on release?

Sorry for the delayed reply burns_ca.

If you are unable to get your current password to unlock 1P I would suggest restoring from a backup that was created before this trouble started. Change your MP again, then follow these steps: Extension Data Does Not Match the Main Application (this will sync the MP change to the extension).

Purchasing 3.9 in the MAS yields a free upgrade to 4.0 when available.
  • The restoring from a backup part is the problem, here . . . ~/Library/Application Support/1Password. this no longer exists, presumably because of an update, but, neither does it exist in a time machine backup. I've tried restoring an earlier version of the app from time machine, and that does not solve the problem. Also, I do not have the "containers" folder as referenced in your official answers thread. So, the question, then, is, where do I find the backups? I have a super duper clone from before the Lion upgrade, but not sure if it's compatible, yet . . .

    Thanks for your reply.
  • got it. found the files in dropbox. thank you.
  • Hey there, burns_ca! Thanks for updating the thread. I am glad you got it sorted out. I noticed some inconsistencies in my own testing and we will look into this further.
