Buy MAS version but keep using 3.8?

I'd like to buy the MAS version at the lower price now, in hopes that version 4 supports iCloud, but I don't want to USE the MAS version yet due to the sandboxing issues and because iCloud isn't available/supported yet.
If I save my 3.8.5 version of 1Password.app somewhere outside of /Applications, buy the MAS version, and then replace the MAS version with my 3.8.5 version, would the 1PasswordAgent be negatively affected? Would my agilekeychain file be affected in any way?

As long as you don't launch the purchased 3.9, you shouldn't even have to do anything else besides deleting it from your /Applications/1Password folder. Don't erase your copy of 3.8 from the Applications folder before installing, MAS will not overwrite it.
