When does 1P 50% off sale in Mac App Store end?

Or said another way, when must I install Lion by in order to take advantage of the sale <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

We haven't picked a time yet, but be sure to read the FAQ at the top of the forum. We can't give rain checks, so once it's gone, it's gone.
  • Does it mean I would be forced to purchase it again from the MAS now?

Does it also mean, I am forced to upgrade to Lion before I am able to purchase 1Password 3.9 that only runs on Lion?

Does it mean I can not purchase 1Password (Lion only) when I still run Snow Leopard and want to wait at least until 10.7.2 before I upgrade?

What will be new in 1Password 4?

With Version 3.8.5 on Safari 5.1 I CAN'T use 1Password to log into Agile's own forums. Now I have to pay for an effective downgrade to use 1Password in Lion with a discount on version 4, which so far offers no promised reversal of the downgraded features. That is good marketing exactly HOW?

Let me quote below a comment I posted at Insanely-Great.com about this situation:

Having been a 1Password fan from the beginning, I've had a lot of patience with the current catastrophic mess it has become in Safari 5.1. But now I'm asked to pay for accessing that catastrophic mess in Lion. I read the forum page at AgileBits and am extremely DISTURBED. Version 3.9 turns out to be a functional DOWNGRADE, with no access from two of my frequently used/required web browsers. $20 for a downgrade and a free version of 4, which is WHAT exactly? I feel like I'm throwing good money at a dying program and I am NOT convinced the 'discount' is worth the wager on an improved version. I'm shopping around for an alternative application and hanging on to my separate encrypted text file of passwords. Very disturbing AgileBits! This is terrible marketing.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. If you opt to stick with 3.x, that is your choice. We aren't going to force people to upgrade.

    > Does it also mean, I am forced to upgrade to Lion before I am able to purchase 1Password 3.9 that only runs on Lion?

Yes, 1Password 3.9 does require Lion (even to purchase it).

    > Does it mean I can not purchase 1Password (Lion only) when I still run Snow Leopard and want to wait at least until 10.7.2 before I upgrade?

    Correct.

    > What will be new in 1Password 4?

I don't have any news to share at the moment. We don't have a release date for 1Password 4 at this time.

    Hi Derek!

    Why can't you use 1Password to login here? I can (version 3.8.5). <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Please try saving the login manually like this:

    1. Enter your username and password, but DO NOT submit the form.

    2. Click the 1Password button in your browser's toolbar, and select the "+" button in the upper right hand corner.

    3. Change the title and make any notes (if desired).

    4. Click the Save button in the upper right hand corner.

I would wager it'll work then.

    You certainly don't have to upgrade to 1Password 3.9 / 1Password 4 if you don't want to.

Derek, I am surprised you cannot login into forums with 1Password. I use it every day myself and it works fine. Could we get a copy of your Login, maybe there is something we are not taking into account?

You can make a copy by selecting this login in the list and then pressing Cmd-C. Paste it here using Cmd-V and make sure you replace real password with something else.

    Thank you!

bwoodruff's method worked. Formerly I had just one entry, for Agile. It repeatedly failed to log in here. I had to login by hand from the entry in 1Password. Having followed bwoodruff's instructions, I now have two entries: One for Agile and one for the forums. Both have identical information. Both now work for logging into the forum.

    1) Considering that I had the right information in the entry in the first place, why the FAIL?

    2) Why would be creating a second entry for the forum with the exact same data cause the original entry to now work properly.

I wish I could help further debugging this problem. But I have to point out that I have identical trouble with 1Password and in-page popup login boxes at many other sites as well. I am not remotely happy with the beta testing I'm having to endure with Safari 5.1. But I know you are working on it and have had frequent updates.

However, asking anyone to pay for a Lion upgrade amidst what is clearly an ongoing and dissatisfying beta testing period is a very bad idea. I remain disturbed by this situation.

But thank you for both for your very swift replies and concern! Nice follow through guys. Say 'Hi!' to Rochester, my home town.

Well I have to admit the fact that the original login item now working is quite strange. The reason to have to create a new one is that sometimes websites change the names on their form fields. 1Password does its best to guess which fields are which, but sometimes you have to explicitly tell it. Manually saving the login does this. We recently upgraded out forum software, so this part makes sense.

I don't get to Rochester as often as I would like anymore (I'm about an hour south) but will definitely say "Hi" when I see it! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
