Why are my passwords displayed truncated in widescreen view?

Why does the password field in the widescreen view only display 7 bullets or 7 characters of a password and then an ellipsis? Please fix it to display the entire password!

    Hi seeemef,

I'm not sure what you mean by widescreen view?

    Hi seeemef,

That's what the three view modes are called in 1Password: Shelves (⌘1), Widescreen (⌘2), and Traditional (⌘3).

In Widescreen mode (since upgrading to the App Store version), the password field is too narrow to display most of my passwords without truncating them with a trailing ellipsis.

I see, thanks for the clarification. It appears that traditional view is the only one that does not have this issue (which makes some sense -- it is actually the widest in that area). Thanks for the report.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding this, but I think the truncation is merely based on the window size and password length. If you resize the window and view items with passwords of different lengths, you will get different results. We'll take a look at improving this in the future, but for now it is working as designed.

No, the Widescreen view is only using half of the available display space. It's truncating for no reason at the width I want my 1Password window.

Could you post a screen shot (or two for comparison)? My guess is that the image (or the placeholder for the image) is causing the truncation in an extremely narrow window. That was the only way I was able to reproduce what I think you are describing.

  • I do not use login previews.

This is a recent weirdness, possibly since 3.9, though I can't be exactly certain.

    Thank you.

Yeah. It is as I suspected.

The placeholder for the preview image is truncating the URL and password fields if you have an extremely narrow window. I don't see this on my own machine since I have a nice wide screen which I take advantage of. However, this could be improved. You'll notice in my top screenshot that the Login title actually goes behind the preview image. I'm not sure that is ideal, but it would be nice to have the placeholder not truncate the other fields when there is no image actually there. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I will pass this along to the developers. I know we've got some "bigger fish to fry" lately, so it may not receive attention immediately, but we do try to maintain a high level of attention to detail, so thanks for mentioning this.
