Expanding Accounts Support to Websites
Fairly basic suggestion, but currently in 1Password I find myself using a fairly clunky mix of Logins and Accounts, however there is some overlap between the two that I feel could be eliminated.
In particular, e-mail accounts more and more often come with webmail functionality, so the ability to specify a URL for this, or somehow import an appropriate Login into the e-mail Account would be nice. Such that a single entry for an e-mail address could show up in Accounts and Logins with the appropriate information, but both can be updated at the same time.
This happens to some degree with other items as well, for example, Wireless Routers have an Account template, but most routers these days offer browser-based configuration, but there seems to be no way to specify the URL in 1Password. Worse actually, there seems to be no Account support for routers that have a username either, as the template appears to assume the use of Apple networking products.
Anyway, a lot of this may fall under the larger issue of combining Logins or such, but it's just that practically everything these days is associated with a web-site login at some stage <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
We always thought of Logins being used in the web browser and Accounts for everything else. If a certain service also allows you to login online then it makes sense to store all relevant information in the Login item.
The thing is that things like router accounts aren't so simple; for example, if I store a router account, I can store the router's password (but not its username though that's a separate issue, I just use the base-station name). Anyway most, if not all, routers use web-interfaces for configuring and maintaining them, however you can't use 1Password to login to these using the password in the account, even though all the information may be there (IP address for web-page, password to login), requiring a superfluous Login entry to handle it.
There really needs to be a way to separate out the portion of the Account entry that could be used as a Login, so you can use an Account entry as if it were a Login, with all the extra details that the Account may store.
Same as for the router goes for e-mail accounts and other things as well, which may also have web-interfaces.Flag 0 -
I have two items in those cases. A Login for the web interface, and an Account item for the additional non-web-related information. I tag them to keep them together, but you could use folders instead.
We've have some feature requests for other ways of linking items. I'll add your vote for this! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />Flag 0
