Cannot go past the initial welcome screen

Ok, just bought this for Mac Lion

It won't work

I load the master password, repeat, and add the password hint

Click "continue" and nothing happens

Agile advise that there is no longer email support but I can write snail mail to some address

Is this a scam?

No, our inbox is over 1000+ messages and we just don't want you to wait several days before getting a reply. Forums are much faster and we are also setting up a new knowledge base for Mac App Store users.

Your problem can be easily solved, please see this article:

  • thanks for the message

I am not confident about using terminal because shurrrely you would not have been able to load your app on the mac appstore without making it work ?

You must agree that if your product is worthy, I should not need to delve in to terminal?

I agree and 1Password does not require you to use the Terminal. This is not a problem with 1Password, it is a problem with file permissions on your Mac and it was there before you installed 1Password.

We submitted a bug report to Apple about this issue and hopefully it will be solved by Apple soon.

If you bring your Mac to a Genius Bar in any Apple Store then I am sure they will be able to help you.
  • so will you pay my cab fare to get to the apple store then ?

You should ask if Apple will do that.

Maybe one day we will have a super special edition of 1Password and we will fly out to your home and fix all computer issues for you <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am just not sure how much that edition will cost.
  • why not try a version tat works out of the box....?

I am sorry to repeat this. The version does work out of the box as long as your Mac doesn't have problems with file permissions.

The solution that I recommended to your was tried by more than 20 people in this forum and it worked well.
  • well you have taken my money and now I have to spend money to get it fixed

what else do you expect me to say ?
  • ps: there are laws about this sort of thing

I will certainly pass your feedback to Apple. I emailed them two days ago and hopefully will get a response soon.
  • Isn't it your problem rater than blaming it on Apple ?

I am sorry but it is not. I posted detailed instruction on how to fix this, if you are willing to take a look:

    https://onepassword-osx.tenderapp.com/kb/1password-3-for-mac/1password-fails-to-continue-after-the-initial-welcome-screen
  • I too am sorry to have downloaded your app in the first place

Here is the text of my complaint to Apple:

"The 1Password App does not work. It will not let me past the first sign in screen.

I have been on the 1Password forum and the administrator tells me it is a apple problem and I have to take my mac to an apple store

My mac is up to date with all software (Lion)

You should not approve apps that do not work. The developer expects me to go in to terminal to fix things. This is an app dealing with passwords for heaven's sake ! I should not have to get under the hood. There are security issues here.

Please refund my money and bar the developer until they can make their app work.

    Forum details are at: http://forum.agilebits.com/index.php?/topic/8374-cannot-go-past-the-initial-welcome-screen/page__fromsearch__1

I have screen grabs in case the developer pulls the forum

    Thank you"
  • Hi,

Unfortunately, this didn't work for me. I'm not very terminal savvy, but when I pasted in the command and pressed return, this is the answer I got.

    UID: Undefined variable.

I've no idea what it might mean, but I'm thinking that this may be a problem.

I'm unhappy that I can't even get past the welcome screen. I'm even more unhappy that the fix hasn't done anything. I'm sure that what I'm seeing in terminal is probably something very simple, it just isn't for me!

    Can someone help here?

    tmfta,

There is a problem with your computer that is preventing 1Password from being installed. You would likely run into this with other (although not all) Mac App Store applications. We are trying to help you fix this issue, so that you can install 1Password. In addition, it appears to be a bug in Apple software that originally caused this issue, and as such we have notified them of the issue. We hope that they will fix the original issue so that no one has this problem in the future.

I hope that explains the situation.

    Hi there geardownflap20,

Sorry to hear that the command did not work for you. I think I see what the problem is. In this instance, there is a slight modification to the command to make it work:
chmod -N /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.`id -u`/overrides.plist
Please let me know how that turns out for you.
  • Hi Ben,

Thanks for your help. This seems to have done the trick. I'm past the welcome screen now, onward and upward!

  • Hey geardownflap20,

    On behalf of Ben, you are very welcome! He's a great co-pilot. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Thanks for updating the thread to let us know the terminal command worked for you. I'm glad the stall was averted, and that you are onward and upward!

    Cheers!

  • I could live with a bandaid fix for a number of apps, but not one which is handling passwords -- it simply doesn't inspire confidence (even though it may very well work)

Apple have now refunded my purchase

Good luck with your app though

I'm glad to hear Apple refunded your purchase, but again as both Roustem and Ben have mentioned this was not a bug with 1Password, it was an issue with your installation of OS X, we've reported the bug to Apple so they can fix it but we're also providing the steps to help affected users fix this themselves.

If this was a bug with 1Password everyone would be having the same problem, and in that case we'd be responsible, but I can tell you that I didn't have this issue, nor did a number of friends who've upgraded.

Thanks for the good luck wishes.
