HTTP Authentication

There's a site I used to use 1P to log in to (though it only worked on Firefox 4). Now that I'm on 1P 3.9, I upgraded Firefox to 6, and I can't log in to anymore. It uses HTTP authentication, rather than a web form.

You click the Login button, and enter the username and password. Is there any workaround, besides copy/paste? And can you please look into this? Ideally, I would like to use any of the big-3 browsers to log in.

The new 1Password Extension uses the Extensions API provided by each browser. Unfortunately these browsers do not currently provide a way for the 1Password team to autofill HTTP Auth forms. Hopefully Apple, Google and Mozilla will add this functionality soon, but I wouldn't hold your breath.Flag 0

It worked in the past, i.e., AgileBits is to blame, not the browser developers. It was an AgileBits decision to release new and mostly unusable extensions.Flag 0 -

Firefox 6 and Safari 5.1 are completely different animals than their predecessors. Your statement is simply not true. There is no way, that we have found, using Firefox 6 or Safari 5.1 to interact with these logins. Yes, it used to be possible. That functionality was removed by Apple and Mozilla (respectively) with their new releases. Interestingly, Chrome has never had this available.
The new extension frameworks don't allow for it. It's not because we simply chose not to implement it.
Something I'm not sure you realize MacMacken, is that we use this software too. We want it to work well just as much or more than you do. If you've never heard of the "software dog food" concept, you can read about it here: Eating your own dog food - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
We miss HTTP auth as much as the next guy or gal. We've been trying to find a way to make it work without using the browser's frameworks. So far we have not found a way to do so. We are pushing Apple and Mozilla to build this function back into their frameworks, but have not had any results thus far.Flag 0
