WiFi sync between Mac? [Answered]

Morning,

I read in description in MAS 1 Password:

"Securely sync your data over the air between Macs, iPhones and iPads with Dropbox or locally over WiFi"

That mean, I can sync between two Macs over WiFi in 1Password 3.9?

Greetings, Bernd

    Hi Bernd,

We should probably clean up that wording a bit.

Mac <-> Mac sync is still accomplished via Dropbox

Mac <-> iPod/iPad/iPhone is accomplished via Dropbox or WiFi

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Hm, that's poor. Is this right, 1Password (MAS version) save the database not anymore in /Library/1Password but only in sandbox of application?

I need a sync possibility Mac <-> Mac.

Dropbox is no alternative for me. I store my important passwords or other data on a cloud or other web storage space. The security risk is to high for me!

I need an option for easy sync Mac <-> Mac.

    Bernd,

From the moment we designed the Agile Keychain data format we ensured that it was able to withstand an attack should your data fall into the wrong hands, either as a result of this Dropbox breach of if someone physically stole your computer. As such, we use 128-bit AES encryption to protect your sensitive 1Password data as well as many other mechanisms to stop an attacker from ever accessing your information and we detail this here:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/cloud_storage_security.html

So, as long as you use a secure master password that you don't use elsewhere, your 1Password data is incredibly safe even when stored on a service like Dropbox. If you're not sure about the strength of your master password, please do take a look at our recent blog post on this:

    Thanks,

    Ben

    I know.

But I do not upload my private data to web.

If stole my physically computer that's my own encumber.

But if I have my data in web I have no control which people have access to this data.

Sorry, but Dropbox is no alternative for me. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sadsmile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-(' />

I need away to sync data Mac <-> Mac.

With 1password (non MAS version) can I simple copy the Files from one Mac to the other Mac.

Or I need a possibility to save the 1Password database to an NAS drive in my home network.

So I have access to the same database with all my Macs.

I think perhaps you misunderstood my post above.

All of your 1Password data is encrypted using your Master Password. Without knowing your Master Password, it is impossible to access your 1Password data (even for us).

Dropbox is the only recommended way to sync your data between two Macs. It may be possible to accomplish using a different sync tool such as rsync or ChronoSync, but both of those would involve some manual setup on your part.

    No, no. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I understand you. I mean the 1password database when I say "my data".

I know, 1Password database is encrypt but Dropbox is a foreign server for me and Dropbox isn't secure for me.

You can read at wikipedia criticism article, why: http://en.wikipedia....vice)#Criticism

Yes, absolutely, I'm well aware of Dropbox's recent security issues. My point is that you could email me your keychain and I wouldn't be able to open it. Ever. Even trying to brute force the password. That is, as long as your Master Password is secure.

But, as I mentioned, either rsync or ChronoSync may be able to help you out. I do not have much experience with either in regards to syncing 1P I'm afraid, so I can't be of much help setting them up, but I have heard of positive results from some of our customers who opt to not use Dropbox.

Hm, it's so difficult build in WiFi sync Mac<->Mac?

WiFi Sync between Mac and iPhone works fine, too.

I find sandboxing database of 1Password (MAS version) at a limitation.

    In non-MAS version I have free choice for the data storage. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_sweating.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(sweat)' />

The problem is that for many of our customers it did not work at all due to misconfigurations of their home networks or restrictions on their work networks. It isn't currently in the plans to build WiFi Mac<->Mac syncing into 1Password, but we never say never. If there is a lot of demand for this, and we can find a better way to do it, then it is something we could consider in the future.
