Can 3.8.5 read 3.9 data?

I'm thinking of upgrading to 3.9, but I have an older 32-bit Intel Mac too that can't have Lion. All my machines sync through Dropbox. If I upgrade to 3.9, will the 3.8.5 on my non-Lion capable Mac still be able to read the data files?

    Hi attila,

Yes, absolutely. 3.8.x and 3.9 use exactly the same file format.

Will that continue to be through 4.0 and the iOS versions too? This is the only hesitation I have over buying the MAS version right now — my work Mac will be stuck on Snow Leopard for the foreseeable future, but I'm already on Lion on my personal Mac and my iPhone and iPad will move up to iOS 5 right away. I always keep the iPad/iPhone versions of 1P up to date as well.

I can only comment on the immediate future. I truly do not know what version 4 or future iOS versions might bring. I can say, for now, there is no issue sharing a data file across any 3.x versions.

    This is SO untrue.

I installed MAS 3.9 on my Air, and I still have 3.8.5 on Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro. My systems (Air, Pro, iPad, and iPhone) are unable to all sync to the same 1Password file on Dropbox.

I have 100s of passwords and half of them have reverted to (incorrect) password strings and data from records that were changed two months ago. Every time I run 1Password on my Pro (3.8.5), I get all sorts of Dropbox sync errors.

Agile recommended turning on "Resolve Sync Conflicts." It doesn't work.

I am now in the situation where my Air is set up to access the current Dropbox folder, and my Pro accesses a backup from 1 month ago before MAS was installed on the Lion. I have to painstakingly copy by hand any errant entries on the current Dropbox copy from the backup on the Pro.

There is no way to get 3.8.5 to reliably sync to the 3.9 Dropbox copy.

Moreover, there is no longer any coherent sync between my 4 platforms.

Agile has NEVER responded to me explaining how to resolve this.

Ever since upgrading to MAS, my system of a unified 1Password file across 4 platforms is toast. Moreover about half of my passwords are wrong at any given time on a particular platform.

I have given up on trying to get Pro, iPhone, and iPad to sync to the new MAS Dropbox format.

When the AWS Team says in this thread "there is no issue sharing a data file across any 3.x versions" that is a COMPLETE lie. I have tested this over and over again, now spend at least an hour a day on these issues, and am no slacker (in IT for 30 years, and the Mac lead at an international law firm based in NYC).

This is the worst software nightmare I have seen in years.

Because I've posted so much about this, you would think Agile would email me directly and help me resolve my problems, right? Especially since I paid for the MAS upgrade on my Air, which I did not really need.

Nope. No response. They've taking my money and run. And nothing in the forums that I've found so far that addresses the subject of this thread.

You know, I could live with the emotional factor of this being all so wrong. It's the time factor that's killing me: troubleshooting this 2 hours a day trying to get it to work.

Hey, if someone has figured out how to get this to work, PLEASE POST HERE.

    Thank you.

While this will come as no consolation for those having issues, I'm running 3.8.5 and 3.9 on the same Dropbox 1Password data store with no issues across multiple Macs and iOS devices. I did elect to first delete 1Password from my iOS devices, remove ALL vestiges of 3.8x from Macs slated to receive 3.9., and relocated the data store to the root level of my Dropbox account (it had been in a sub-folder)--all PRIOR to running 3.9 for the first time. Perhaps being anal helped in my case. Perhaps I just got lucky <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I'm interested in a clear, confident answer to this too.

loudogg, as velgor mentioned here with their success, and as I describe in this post, what you're looking to do should not be an issue.
