Problem with the database, please do this that and the other thing

I tried the latest 1Password and the Safari extension a while back. Various problems. I downgraded to the earlier version of 1PW, and it all worked as before.

A few days ago I tried again, with latest Safari and latest 1PW.

Consistent problem: I launch the extension when in a website; I type in my password when the request for the Master Password pops up. It then shows a red bar and states "problem with the database." It tells me to either command option quit Safari (?), which I don't want to do given the sites I've found and tabs I have open, or to disable/reenable the extension, which doesn't work.

Can you fix this? Or will this problem remain for those who don't upgrade to 3.9?

Listen: I would upgrade to 3.9 and happily pay you $20, but I can't use it unless I upgrade to Lion--which I'm not ready to do.

Will 3.8 always be problematic? Is the choice either to go back to 3.5.13 or forward to 3.9?

You're all wonderful, but tell me true: Can you fix this?

Thanks!

Alarik

I have been a 1 password owner since 4-23-2008 it has worked great up till now. I constantly have this database error especially when I switch between back and forth between private browsing mode. I have purchased many upgrades since then I even bought a pack of licenses for my family and I. I have purchased the iPhone version as well. I want to buy the version on the app store but I am scared that this problem I am having will never get fixed. I have to constantly start and stop my extensions and close my browser.

I have been waiting patiently but I really and scared that this problem will never get fixed. Is there any update on this?

3.9 is no better in this regard...maybe worse. Obviously the 1P people know about the issue since they tell you how to fix it...but when will THEY fix it?
  • Hey guys! I am terribly sorry to keep you waiting.

Just to clarify: We are aware of these issues, and they are present regardless of the version of the main 1Password application since the browser extensions are separate. In most cases, this is a permissions or installation issue (1PasswordAgent/Helper needs to be able to run and communicate in order to sync data between 1Password and its extensions).

However, as PJless pointed out there is a currently a Safari bug that causes Private Browsing to interfere with extensions. We have reported this to Apple and are hopeful that it will be addressed in an update. We have been looking for a workaround in the mean time, but this is difficult do to the sandboxing Safari does. For now, the only solution is to turn off Private Browsing and restart the browser.

On the other hand, there are likely machine-specific configuration issues that are causing the database problems, and in order to diagnose and resolve this we will need more detailed information to see what is or is not happening in each case. First, though, make sure 1Password is up to date (1Password menu > Check for Updates) and then install the latest Safari extension (1Password menu > Install Browser Extensions). Then, please send us a Diagnostics Report. You can generate one in 1Password on your Mac by going to Help > Troubleshooting > Diagnostics Report... Just attach this to an email (support@agilebits.com), and be sure to include any other details or screenshots (as well as a link to this thread for context) you can as it will help us understand the problem better.

Please let me know. I look forward to hearing back from you. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

And I am sorry that I completely forgot to address your questions about 1Password 3.9/MAS and Lion:

We have released two updates for 1Password 3.8 since we launched the MAS version, and we have updates in the works for both. At some point, however, development for 1Password 3 will cease. It's had a good run, and we've been releasing free updates for it for 3 years now. We will continue to support it with bugfixes and you with any assistance we can (as we do for our Tiger and Leopard customers to this day!) but there will probably not be a lot of new features added going forward as we transition to 1Password 4.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any additional questions. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

P.S: It is also important to note that since the extensions are updated separately from the main application now, all of the improvements we make there will benefit all 1Password 3.8, 3.9, and eventually 4.0 users as well.
