Hi,

1Password 3.9 frequently crashes when duplicating items.

Please take a look into the attached logs and fix it.

  • Hi,

Just purchased 1Password (3.9 on Mac App Store), and it crashes very often. Even when not in use.

Thanks for the reports, folks. We have fixed this for the next update which should be available soon.

jwpope, if you are running the Mac App Store version of 1Password (3.9), please try running this command in Terminal (found in /Applications/Utilities):
launchctl unload -w ~/Library/LaunchAgents/ws.agile.1PasswordAgent.plist
If you are still having trouble, please contact us directly on our support site with a link to this thread so we can "connect the dots" when we get your support ticket. You may need to wait for the update as well, but the crash report you posted is for the old 3.8.6 background process which shouldn't be running if you are using 1Password 3.9, so we may be able to resolve this for you before that update.

3.9 is crashing constantly for me. It's happened so many times this morning alone that I've lost count and often losing recently entered details in the process. It has gone from a rock of stability to a total mess <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />

I love the new browser extension and I have no doubt 1Password can be a great app going forward but these non stop crashes are really disappointing and I think we would have all been a lot happier if Agile had just waited before release until these problems were resolved. It also raises concerns over the safety of information and I wondered about file corruption if the app is crashing every couple of minutes.

In general I'm not totally against the idea of using MAS for applications but this slow route to bug fixes is a real negative for an application like this. None of us expected these kinds of problems when 3.9 was introduced but having made the transition now I'm really hoping version 4 will offer something spectacular that makes the move to MAS worthwhile.

Hey Ashley, I'm terribly sorry that you have had this much trouble. We are still adjusting a bit to the different distribution model, but we have submitted 3.9.1 to the Mac App Store for approval which should resolve all the issues you have been experiencing. It is up to Apple at this point how soon it will be made available, but hopefully it will be any day now.

There were a number of major changes from 3.8 to 3.9 (many of which involved sandboxing for added security). We were not able to do as broad of a beta test with 3.9 as we normally do, and these issues did not surface until after 3.9 was "in the wild". We certainly would never have released 3.9 if these issues had come up in our testing. The changelog for 3.9.1 is one of the more impressive I've seen come out of AgileBits (even since before my days with the company). We will continue to release free updates as issues are resolved and new features are added, and I hope things get better and better for you.

FWIW, the vast majority of folks haven't had any trouble with 3.9, but some of the issues have been biting some folks much more than others. Please let me know if there is something more I can help with once you have updated to 3.9.1 (as soon as it is available) or anything else in the meantime.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. You've always been one of the folks who remind me how awesome our customers are.

    Hi Khad,

Before 3.9 was installed, 1Password had never once crashed on either of my Macs whether on Snow Leopard or Lion, but 3.9 has been genuinely unstable. This has been doubly surprising since Lion itself has proved to be rock solid even at this early stage. There is never a problem using it at a browser level and FWIW I think the new browser extension is the best thing since sliced bread.

The crashes are purely related to data entry inside the main app and I've been doing all this work on the Mac Pro, since I rarely turn on the iMac these days but it's all synced through Dropbox. Is it possible I have a corrupted preference file or something else that could be provoking this instability? I've had days where it has crashed over 20 times when I am actively working inside the main app.

Previously I only used 1Password to store site passwords and information on purchased software but now I'm relying on it more and more as the place to go for storing all kinds of information in an organised location and above all securely. If I need to find that PDF invoice for a washing machine or a copy of that htaccess text file on the server 1Password is a great place to store it because it's so easy to find thanks to tagging and smart folders plus it's unlikely to be trashed in error. The only caveat is that 1Password itself has to be absolutely bulletproof for protecting all that data. Hopefully 1Password will return to normal in a few days with the next update.

    Thanks

    Ashley

First of all, thanks so much for your incredibly kind words about the new extension. It's been our baby lately, so the positive feedback is much appreciated! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

I am not one of the developers, so I can't speak to the exact nature of the crashes. However, I do believe they are related to some of the major changes we needed to make in order to comply with Apple's sandboxing policies. This, of course, is no excuse but I hope it at leasts sheds a little bit of light as to why this release in particular is so different (under the hood and unfortunately from a stability standpoint as well) for you. I am anxiously awaiting the moment when Apple makes the update available in the Mac App Store. It should restore the reliability you have rightfully come to expect/demand from 1Password.

You also have the option to download the current version of 1Password 3.8 from our website and run that if that was something you were interested in doing until 3.9.1 is available.

    Best regards,
  • Just a quick message to say that I installed 3.9.1 a few hours ago and since then I've deliberately pushed it hard in the main application window adding several new details, previewing attachments in quick view, tagging and more but it hasn't put a foot wrong and everything seems rock solid once again. I'd say the bugs have been exterminated and my favourite app is back again <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />
