Most items missing from 1P wallet

I store copies of all my identification, licences, bank cards, etc in 1Password's wallet. I recently went into the wallet area for some information and found everything gone except for 7 cards - all Visa. The trash is empty too. I don't know when this happened, but it would have to be sometime in the last six weeks or so. I can't say for certain that no other types of information (logins, etc) have been lost. I have all backups over several years, so I know I can get to this information.
My concerns are:
1) Finding out how this happened.
2) Restoring all lost data. I've added a lot of information to 1password in the last month, so I don't simply want to restore an old backup. I need to somehow merge the two, however I would need some control over this process so updated items aren't overwritten with older, now-invalid data.
3) Making certain this doesn't happen again
