Dropbox problem after upgrading to 3.9
I was running the last beta version (3.8.6.BETA-3) with my 1Password.agilekeychain located in the root folder of my Dropbox account.
Before purchasing 3.9 from the MAS, I moved the application to the trash.
I purchased 3.9 from the MAS and it installed it without a problem. After starting the program, it requested I indicate where the data file was. I thought it would automatically detect that the 1Password.agilekeychain was located in Dropbox. It didn't, but allowed me to navigate to that file in Dropbox and I thought all was well.
However, upon checking 1Password's preferences, I discovered that the 1Password.agilekeychain was NOT located in Dropbox, but in:
(~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Documents/1Password.agilekeychain).
The "Use Dropbox..." button is greyed out, and it is therefore impossible to select Dropbox.
The update was supposed to recognize the location as being in Dropbox.
NOT good.
Who can help?
Thanks and regards,
Alan

I have this problem too. It's because MAS 1password requires the 1Password.agilekeychain be on the root folder of dropbox, and requires dropbox to be in the default location on the system drive. I have dropbox on a second drive, hence it won't work. They say this is because of sandboxing, which is true, but then they shouldn't have used sandboxing. It is my understanding they didn't have to (yet). This totally kills syncing for anyone who doesn't use the defaults. (and I can't use the default location of dropbox.)Flag 0

So with the sandboxing does that mean Agile will NEVER fix this issue? Its important for me to have 1Password.agilekeychain within dropbox so I can use the licensed windows 1password I use exclusively at work. Willl there be an update to fix this? What say you Agile peeps? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0

Could you please clarify the question for me?
Sandboxing requires that we request access to very specific locations within the file system, and those requests must be approved by Apple. Currently the only locations we have access to are the ~/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain location, and the default location. We can't support file system paths such as /Volumes/MyGiantDrive/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain
It is possible to move your entire home directory to /Volumes/MyGiantDrive, which may be the answer for some folks. It saves a lot of symlinking headache. As always, exercise caution, and make backups.Flag 0 -
I'm having the same problem. 1Password worked great with Dropbox before the MAS version came out. Now I can't get it to work with Dropbox. What's going on? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_angry.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':@' />Flag 0

I wrote up a hack that solves this. Check out this thread for more info. It's not an officially supported solution, and Agile Bits is working on the problem for 4.0, but this will get you up and running in the meanwhile.Flag 0

i too have the same problem as the others in this thread and it seems the question of it being fixed by agile is never answered. my 1Password.agilekeychain is in the correct place in dropbox under my user and 1password still creates an new file in the containers folder even after i direct it from the splash screen to my dropbox. like the first post on this thread, use dropbox is greyed out in the preferences.
i know jon has a hack to fix this. not being as savvy as he is, i couldn't get it to work.
is this issue being addressed by the agile team. like others i purchased 1password from agile prior to the mac app store, and then again through mas.
it would be nice to know if this is being worked onFlag 0 -
Why isn't an administrator or anyone from Agile answering the question: Is this problem being worked on or not?
No response is incredibly annoying to loyal customers.Flag 0 -

i agree!!! ben did respond but he did not respond to your question or provide an answer in any way to both yours and my question, which are the same. i have even posted on a prior thread where jon provided a hack, but have still not received a response.
there is no way to contact tech support, other than the forums. if trying to get a refund from apple where not such a hassle i would do it. i had hoped for better from agile.
this is very frustrating.
i have even tried to set up a new account from the splash screen and "use dropbox" is still greyed out.Flag 0 -

I did reply above but I didn't see a response to what I said.

Yes - I am not the OP - but I had that problem.Flag 0 -
Hi, Ben
Thanks for letting us know about the current restrictions:

Unfortunately, one of the side effects is that for every app that does this, the root Dropbox folder ends up littered with individual files/folders.
I've been using a ~/Dropbox/Application Data/<app name>/ folder heirarchy for the polite applications which allow me, the customer, to choose where data is held (e.g. Alfred, 1Password 3.8.x - sadly not TextExpander).
I appreciate that Apple is unlikely to provide a folder convention for Dropbox (~/Library/Application Support/ style), but if it is going to force developers to use a specific path could you consider discussing with other app developers and come up with a neater schema?
At least until we're all using iCloud!
Just an idea...
Best wishes,
Steve
PS have purchased 3.9 but have reverted to 3.8.6b3 - both because of this "feature" and because I can't run 3.9 until I risk upgrading my other Macs to LionFlag 0 -

I do have my data file in this location, but the same thing happens to me. I will probably revert back to 3.8x just so I can access my passwords again. Agile did a lousy job testing v3.9. I should have never been released in the sad shape it is in!Flag 0 -
I have the same problems as you all guys.
As I used a small SSD (located in the place of the superdrive) to install MAC os, and I use my original harddrive to install Dropbox. But as you can see on the screenshot I joined, I cant use the "dropbox" button, and I cant change the location of the agilekeychan
Can you help me?

I moved my DropBox to ~/ and then was able to have 1password 3.9 use dropbox. I didn't like having to move dropbox but will keep it that way. I had it under my docs so I can backup everything from one folder.. But added DB now to backup. As for my windows version I had to have it open the new one and bingo. Then had to have 1pass on iOS resync after removing any old 1pass keychain folders from dropbox...
Pain but will survive. again like everyone - I live and breathe all day off 1pass for work, home, personal business.Flag 0 -

Sorry, my fault...I missed that. Yes, it is in the default location.
Still, my question was, and is, is Agile working on a fix for this or not?Flag 0 -
Is anyone from Agile looking into this problem. It's been a few weeks since I tried upgrading to the MAS version and with 3.9 unable to open my data file which is located in the proper Dropbox location. I had went back to 3.8.x so that I could access my passwords, but just tried installing 3.9 again to see if problem was fixed. Sadly, there is still an issue here and it appears that folks from Agile have done little to address it. I guess I will uninstall again and hope that 3.9.1 comes out soon with a fix. This is really horrible support guys. I paid $19.99 for something that doesn't work -- is this how you treat your loyal customers?Flag 0

Yes, rudygr! We are working on this, but it takes time.
We hope to be able to support a subfolder in Dropbox in an update, which will be available as soon as humanly possible. Unfortunately, we simply don't have permission to access other parts of your system to be able to fix these issues ourselves. Many thanks to Jon Marler for the 'hack' he suggested.
In your case, rudygr, it sounds like there may be a very different problem on your system. Could you please send us a Diagnostics Report? You can generate one using our standalone 1Password Troubleshooting tool:
http://cdn.agilebits.com/dist/1P/mac/util/1Password%20Troubleshooting.zip
Just save the file and attach it to an email (support at agilebits dot com), and be sure to include any other details or screenshots you can as it will help us understand the problem better.
We will get this working for you. I look forward to hearing back from you. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0
