More templates

I tend to use templates as much as I can and I'd be glad if you would cover more situations. Right now for example I'd like to have a template for my iPhone SIM card, but if you are open in this respect I can suggest you some more.

What do you think about it?

    Hi Mindplay,

People want all sorts of templates. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> We're looking for the best way to implement more templates but do not have any definite plans in place at this point. Thanks for letting us know this would be useful to you.

More templates would be extremely helpful. Even better would be the ability to create your own templates or add fields to an existing template. I just purchased a family pak and am in the process of converting from Ascendo DataVault to 1Password. Frankly, the lack of templates and the inability to create your own is causing me to reconsider my purchase.

Specifically, I am struggling with the following issues:

    1. the lack of templates - for example simple 1 field items like combination locks, security codes and security passwords. I specifically dislike using secure notes as a catchall for many things which occur frequently. Also it would be helpful for entry and grouping.

    2. the inability to change field names - eg. software programs often refer to their license keys and other license information by different names. example eSET Antivirus. I have populated 2 fields in the software license template and there are 4 fields in the "Notes" section because the field descriptions differ sufficiently from what is in 1Password that it would be difficult to discern what to enter if I tried to force the data into 1Passwords template.

    3. the inability to hide fields that are empty in large templates like software licenses - it would be very helpful to have the option to hide empty fields under "View" in a template. This is especially true for large templates that are sparsely populated such as the software license example listed above in item 2.

    4. Missing fields like expiry dates. For example eSet has an expiry date which as of this time has to go into the Notes section.

    5. Incomplete fields - example Membership and Credit Card templates - some expiry dates have a specific day that they expire within a given month. The current templates only allow you to specify the month.
  • I was in the midst of conversion when I wrote what I did above. Now that I have completed the conversion and actually started using 1Password I am speechless. It is so much more than I expected and for me has so many advantages over Ascendo Datavault. Yes, DataVault has some advantages around flexible, user defined, templates but the synchronization, UI, and web interface of 1Password are far superior.

We don't normally pre-announce products or features, so until something is shipping we won't be able to discuss it. Please do keep an eye on these community forums, our blog, Twitter, and Facebook for the latest news, though. You'll see it first in those channels. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
