Suggestion International Support for bank accounts?

I'm from the UK so I'm used to having a "sort code" for my "current account" - 1Password wants a "swift code" for my "checking account". Obviously that's just a quick example, but is there any chance of either support for non-USA banking terminology, or the ability to change field names?

Thanks!

Agreed, I'm from the UK as well. There are many areas in 1Password which could use an international make over. Bank accounts and credit cards are the most pressing.

Also, working with the Verified by Visa would be nice. Say a window pops up with your password in numbered boxes which when clicked, to correspond to the charachters requested, are entered into the text field.

And while we're at it, why not customisable fields?

Welcome to the forums, Mr Skills and SimonX!

Allowing customized items is the way we will eventually go. It is a feature that we have long wanted to deliver, but because it is a major overhaul to include it in all of our products, it has taken more time than we expected to deliver it. However, it is still on the roadmap as a highly requested feature.

    Thanks for the feedback!

Cough, and a highly necessary feature too for all foreign bank accounts that just don't have the necessary items that can be filled in. Very much looking forward to the final rollout of customisation.

    Hi rwakeford,

Completely agree with you here, I'm in the UK myself so it's rather frustrating having the lack of customisation right now, so believe me I'm pushing the developers on this one, but they do pay my wages so I need to be nice to them too :-)

Thanks for your patience on this, don't worry we're on the case!
  • Wierd cos the windows Beta version is supporting international bank accounts without a problem. I had create some UK Bank Accounts on Windows version and after syncing with my mac version those items have another icon and (UK) info. So where is the problem? How can i change US to UK acc in my mac version which should be superior one? Hmm...rly weird
  • Hi - I've just downloaded 1Password and trailing it to see whether its features and usability could persuade me to buy it despite its unusually high price tag (I would need 4 licences).

First thing I noticed was the US centric terminology, e.g. checking account type, social security number category, hunting licence (Why a separate category for this? Incidentally, I have one but how many hunting licences can you have?). Also, why is there neither a Debit Card category and nor any ec-card (Euro Cheque Card) type, which is widely used across Europe? Finally, Verified by Visa and SecureCode have been around for some time, but I can't find any support in 1Password.

When are you planing to add these obvious omissions?

BTW, I noticed a problem with the sidebar on the left. I added a few items into my Wallet and then wanted to add some more items into the other categories but I cannot select any of them. I click on Logins or Account or even All in Folders but nothing happens.

    Cheers

Frankly speaking, I remember being promised that you would include the 'customizable field' feature in 1Password3 when I purchased it last year.

It has been a year, and I have not seen any sign of this feature except one beta version in which you included it and quickly pulled it out.

Actually I found myself feel quite comfortable when using that beta version, and always wondered why you pulled that out so fast.

In my opinion, you do not have to include this feature in all of your 1P product at the same time, and that can not be your excuse for not delivering this feature for such a long time.

And you should include that in the mac version as fast as possible because I think the majority of 1P users are using 1P on mac more frequently.

And finally, to be honest, as an Asian, after a whole year being kept waited, I might take other softwares into consideration if they have the basic password management and most important: customizable fields

    Hey boblu,

Thanks for bringing this up again. This is definitely on our radar and moving closer to the center of it. There were some other things that took our focus from custom templates (i.e.: Dropbox cloud syncing, Windows version, Android version, Chrome support, Firefox 4 support, etc.), but we are all very excited to bring them in a future update.

I can't speak to what may or may not have been "promised" previously. However, we are a small company with limited resources, so we do have to make some tough calls with regard to where we channel our energies. Sometimes a feature that many users want gets placed on the back burner while we work on a feature that even more users are requesting. This can be really frustrating when it may be the only feature I really care about. I completely understand. Believe me. I have my own "pet" features that I have been waiting for which are still not implemented. <img src='http://forum.agile.ws/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />

For these reasons, I cannot give a time frame for a specific release or promise anything, but this is absolutely something we are looking at for a future version.

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know!
  • Hello,

I'm generally happy with 1Password so far, but have found some of the Wallet items not well suited to UK account types. From searching on this, I've seen a blog post advertising new features in 1Password 3 that says "With 1Password 3, it's no problem. You can now add new custom fields to Wallet items and completely customize existing fields too."

    <http://switchersblog.com/2009/08/whats-coming-in-1password-3.html>

I'm using 1Password 3.5.3, however, I cannot figure out how to customise, add, and delete fields. Ideally, I'd like to be able to create and delete entire wallet item types (for instance, I have no need for Social Security Number). Any advice?

    Many thanks,

    Jolin

Welcome to the forums, Jolin! I'm sorry for the confusion.

The blog post you reference was technically true at the time. We had custom fields in early betas of 1Password 3, but they were unfortunately pulled before the final release.

I have merged your post with the appropriate thread, so please see above for the latest news. Let me know if you have any additional questions!
  • What's happening with this? People in this forum have been asking for better support of non-US accounts for years now but I can't see any real progress. Whilst I appreciate that this is a potentially complex issue and you are looking into custom fields of some sort, I don't understand why you can't just add generic credit card and debit card types to the credit card wallet template. That should be easy to implement and would help all of us whilst waiting for the custom fields.

    Cheers

I am personally holding out hope for there return in 1P V4.

I dont have any knowledge of it. Just my hopes I know that doesn't help Michael, I am as much in the dark as you on this. aka Being non paid and volunteer help. But that is kinda good it leaves me to my personal opinions and I can give some good ones at times.

Thanks for reviving this old thread, Michael. Can you help me understand a bit more about what you mean by "add generic credit card and debit card types to the credit card wallet template"? There are a number of different card types to choose from in the existing template:

I'm guessing that isn't what you mean, though. Could you elaborate? As for debit cards, it's been many many years since I've seen a debit card that wouldn't fit one of the above card types.

We have several team members who are in Europe (a couple specifically in the UK), and I'm not aware of any specific limitations they've run into with the existing template. There's always room for improvement, though. I'd love to pass any details you can provide along to the developers.

    Thanks!
  • Hi khad - I agree the sample you listed would work in the UK but in Germany there is the so-called "ec Card" (electronic cash card) and nowadays also other debit cards like "V Pay" or "Maestro". The common official name for these types of cards is Girocard.

I haven't lived in Germany for a long time so I'm not sure what term is currently the best one to add to you list.

Thanks! The existing Maestro and Visa Electron options should work for those respective cards, but we'll take a look at the other options as well. It sounds a lot like a debit card in the US — pretty much all of which are associated with either Visa or MasterCard. Is that not the case in Germany? Are all girocards not associated with Maestro or Visa Electron?

Is it possible to use a girocard online or does it require a card to be present with the EMV chip?

Just curious. I'll pass this along to the developers.
