How Secure?

I am going to have my macbook pro data and apps copied onto my new iMac at the Apple store. Is my 1password data secure? In other words, is it possible for support folks to access the data in my 1password in any way? Just wondering if I should delete all (I have it on my iPad) before taking the computers into the store.

As long as you have 1Password locked up safely being your Master Password you are fine. Agile uses AES 128 bit encryption which is pretty stout in fact it's far more secure than your wireless router.

Typically with Mac to Mac transfers there's not a whole lot of futzing with individual files. Many times both Macs will be connected with Target Disk Mode and data copied over file for file.

    Enjoy your new iMac
  • Yes, I have a secure password on my 1Password, so with that you are saying I'm fine to leave the data and let it be transferred. Thanks very much.

Yes.. the encryption that Agile uses is incredibly strong. As long as your password isn't something that is easy it would take months or years to crack the 128 bit encryption with a powerful computer running 24-7

Your 1Password data is as secure as your Master Password. Without knowing your Master Password, it is impossible to access your 1Password data. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

It's really great to see our users asking about the security of their data!

From the moment we designed the Agile Keychain data format we ensured that it was able to withstand an attack should your data fall into the wrong hands, either as a result of a network breach or if someone physically stole your computer. As such, we use 128-bit AES encryption to protect your sensitive 1Password data as well as many other mechanisms to stop an attacker from ever accessing your information and we detail this here:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/cloud_storage_security.html

That document was written specifically about storing your 1Password data securely in the cloud, but the same mechanism protect your data no matter where you store it.

So, as long as you use a secure master password that you don't use elsewhere, your 1Password data is incredibly safe. If you're not sure about the strength of your master password, please do take a look at our blog post on this:

    Cheers,
  • Thank you all for your responses. I have a secure master password so I'm good to go. Many thanks.

Rich Text Editor. To edit a paragraph's style, hit tab to get to the paragraph menu. From there you will be able to pick one style. Nothing defaults to paragraph. An inline formatting menu will show up when you select text. Hit tab to get into that menu. Some elements, such as rich link embeds, images, loading indicators, and error messages may get inserted into the editor. You may navigate to these using the arrow keys inside of the editor and delete them with the delete or backspace key.
