Work Mac can't move up to Lion, now what?

Hi,

First of all, great software, no, really, but I gotta say support via forums only, took quite a bit longer than what you'd expect, considering if you're looking for support you probably have an issue that hasn't been addressed yet... I'm not gonna mention the privacy issues!

Anyway, ever since I got 1Password via MacHeist (whatever happened to them?) I have been a faithful customer and have just come back for more. I have bought 1Password 3 on the MAS just now but I have a problem: my work Mac is on Snow Leopard and we won't be allowed to move up to Lion for a while yet due to bugs and incompatibility issues. I was hoping that I could just use the license as before on my work Mac but it appears that's no longer the case.

No rain check for upgrading to Lion is one thing but what if I can't upgrade to Lion even if I want to but I hold a license on my personal Mac? Seems a little unfair...

Hoping for a solution,

Lucas

    Hi Lucas!

We still provide email support via support@agilebits.com however the forums general have a much quicker turn-around time. Additionally, if other users are experiencing the same issue (as is definitely a possibility in this case!) they have the potential to find that answer without having to email us and wait for a reply. If everybody emailed us, we'd lose that.

1Password 3.9 is Lion only. You'll be able to install it on your work machine once you are able to upgrade to Lion (no extra charge -- you already have a license tied to your Apple ID, just use the same Apple ID).

As for installing 3.8 on your work machine -- check your email. I just sent you something that should help.
  • Ah, okay, I just didn't see the support email address anywhere so it seemed like I had no choice. Don't get me wrong, support via forums makes a lot of sense but peeps should also have the ability to email if they don't wanna go through the forums.

So, work machine sorted, still can't wait for Lion! Now, by default a 3.8 1Password license is not given out, right? Just to clarify for others, they have to ask for it?

    1Password 3.8 is not included with 1Password 3.9. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
  •
1Password 3.9 is Lion only.
Can you say us: Why? Why is 3.9 Lion only? Thousands of developers offer software that is compatible with both systems..
  • There are a lot of reasons, and while I can't go into all of them the two big ones are support and exposure: Having 1Password 3.9 and 4.0 be Lion-only not only allows us to code for a single OS version and take advantage of Lion-only features, it simplifies help and support, and we are also able to be featured in Mac App Store's "Enhanced for OS X Lion" section.

That said, we still support our other versions: 1Password 2 for Tiger, 1Password 3.5 for Leopard, and 1Password 3.8 for Snow Leopard and Lion. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
