Problems after upgrade to 3.9
Used 1PW generally without problem since downloaded in December 2010. Wife has Windows machine & we both have iPhones/iPads. We have used DropBox. Since I have Lion on my Mac, I decided to take the MAS reduced price offer. Followed instructions (updated 1PW, moved 1PW.app to Trash, Purchased from MAS, installed). Ever since that install I have not been able to open 1PW in terms of "seeing" or editing login names, passwords, URLs, etc. When I click on the 1PW icon in the dock, I get a white dot and the same screen I got when I installed -- the one asking if I am a new user or an existing user.
When I click on the File; Unlock menu option I am told my Master Password is wrong - it isn't. (That PW works in Safari, for logging in to my Mac, etc.)
I tried pulling an older copy of 1Password.agilekeychain from Time Machine and point at that. No help.
After reading in this forum, I decided to try issuing the following terminal command
chmod -N /var/db/launchd.db/com.apple.launchd.peruser.`id -u`/overrides.plist
After i did that, I now have a new error message. When I try and point 1PW to the 1Password.agilekeychain file, the following error message appears:
1Password File 'file://localhost/Users/gordonpotter/Dropbox/1Password.agilekeychain/' is incorrect or damaged. Please choose another file.
I have gone to Time Machine and secured yet a different copy of 1Password.agilekeychain without success.
Obviously i would like to find the magic step(s) to solve this problem, but I am beginning to think it may be necessary to totally rip out 1Password from the Mac and start over as if I were a first time user. I do have a copy of all my logins and passwords which will make the nuclear option possible. But there are three unknowns I know about.
#1 I need a list of files to remove
#2 Since my wife uses the Windows version of 1PW and we both have iPhones and iPads with 1PW, I am concerned the DropBox syncing may interfere in some way.
#3 Is there any trick to downloading another copy of 1PW from the MAS?

Hi Gordon

I'm very sorry to hear you are having this problem. This is quite a complex situation. Lets backup for a second.
And by that I mean, let's first backup your data. If you don't have a known good working Time Machine backup, make one now. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
First I would suggest going to your wife's machine and then do a File > Export All > 1Password Interchange File. Save this file somewhere memorable (not in Dropbox). This is the only step we need to take using your wife's machine.
Now, lets get everything working off the Dropbox keychain.

(we are back on your computer now)
If 1Password itself is not using Dropbox.... delete the following items:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password
/Applications/1Password.app
/Applications/1Password (folder)
~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx
~/Library/Containers/com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper
Reinstall 1Password from the Mac App Store. When/if prompted, point it towards your keychain in Dropbox.

The Safari extension may still be off. If it is, please follow these directions:
Extension Data Does Not Match the Main Application
Great, 1Password should now be using the keychain you had stored in Dropbox.

If it is not...
Remember that 1Password Interchange File (1PIF) we made earlier (if applicable)? Lets create a new keychain and import that. You'll want to copy that file over to your machine from your wife's machine as that is where we are working. In 1Password... File > Import and follow the wizard to import the 1PIF. Once imported, move the 1PIF file from wherever you saved it to the trash. Securely empty the trash (Finder > File > Secure Empty Trash). This is important because the confidential information stored in the 1PIF file is NOT encrypted, so if it falls into the wrong hands, that'd be a "Bad Thing™." Move the keychain that is in Dropbox to the trash then open 1Password and select 1Password > Preferences > General > Use Dropbox.
At this point everything should be using the keychain in Dropbox, and Dropbox should have the most up to date data.
Please let me know how it goes!
Ben

It is not possible to do all you asked --
#1 Wife's machine is Windows machine -- Also for reasons I do not understand I cannot open 1PW on that machine. I am thinking the only data we can use is stored in the browser extensions. (I will look for files if you tell me the name and location -- it is Windows 7)
#2 I am fully backed up with TimeMachine and a SuperDuper Clone that predates the attempted upgrade.
#3 I have lots of copies of the file 1Password.agilekeychain. Is that the 1 PIF file?
#4 Prior to reinstalling 1PW from the App Store, what do I need to delete? While I am using (at least I thought I was) DropBox, I do have all the files you mention in the list in your previous post.

Ben I did one other thing yesterday that may will have been very bad. I noticed in a thread that the path I had to 1Password.agilekeychain in my DropBox was not the same as in the support thread. I had DropBox\1Password\1Password.agilekeychain -- What I saw was DropBox\1Password.agilekeychain. I move the 1Password.agilekeychain file out of the folding and into the DropBox root.
When I go on the Internet and attempt to recover an earlier version of the folder for unknown reasons no versions exist. (I have versions of other files in my DropBox.) So the only backups that exist may be on my Mac.
My wife has backups of the DropBox folder - There is a path that is something like 1Passwordagilekeychain\a\default\thumb\l which lots of files. In addition to the "l" (as in large) folder there are and "m" and a "s" folder with files.
