keyboard on login page

ING Direct has multiple login pages. I can get by the first one which is the acct no, but the password page has a keyboard to enter the password. Is there a possible fix for this or is it one of those banks that we have to ask them if they can make an adaption for 1Password sign on?

Thanks

You can ask ING to change. There seems to be some disagreement as to whether a random keyboard is a useful security function, I have seen at least one site change away from it.

1PW is unlikely to provide a direct solution, I get the impression it would be too difficult.

Best solution at present is to store the passnumbers in a secure note and open 1PW itself when you need these numbers and then enter from the keyboard.

Or, of course, think of two six digit numbers (I use ING myself, so I know that is what is needed) that are sufficiently meaningful to you that you can remember and sufficiently obscure that they won't be easily available to any hacker. For instance, one's own wedding date might not be secure enough but I doubt if one's parents' wedding date would be found by an outsider (no, I don't use that myself).
  • Thanks,

I was doing a step similar to what you suggested, but I was hoping for a automated solution.

    1Password is a great program.

Hey, guys! Thanks for bringing this up. I am really glad you asked about this.

I am personally not a big fan of these 'onscreen keyboard' things on login pages, mainly because they do not really provide any additional security -- nevermind that they make things really difficult for folks with disabilities. While there isn't much we can do to make 1Password able to read and click the keys for you, the bad guys who want to install keyloggers on your machines (you know, the ones that the 'onscreen keyboard' is supposed to help protect you from) are just as capable of taking screenshots of you clicking the keys on the site as well once they have compromised your computer.

So really, there isn't much of a benefit to this at all (other than maybe a perception of increased security), and it inconveniences both those who need to use accessibility features and people using 1Password to be more secure. Hopefully someone either comes up with a better way or we see these kinds of login pages less and less over time.

Depending on what browser you are using, keep in mind that in our latest extensions you can view the password by editing your item details. Just click the (>) arrow to the right of any item (or press the Right Arrow key) and then click Edit:
