4.0 Started?

Fairly simple question:

WHEN did you guys start working on version 4.0?

Before you immediately dismiss this with the "we don't discuss future ...."

I am not asking WHAT is going to be in 4.0. I am not asking WHEN 4.0 is going to be released. I am not asking HOW 4.0 is going to be handled in any regard. I am not asking WHO is working on 4.0.

I am simply asking WHEN you guys started work on 4.0. Last month? 6 months ago? We haven't even started yet?

Thanks

Carl

  • I think the question is not one with a simple answer. A lot of the work that has gone into the extensions and the main 1Password 3 app is also in preparation for 1Password 4 (laying some of the groundwork, so to speak), since we like to maintain as much compatibility as possible across versions. I am not at liberty to go into detail, and I doubt any one moment could be declared 'the start of 1Password 4' anyway. Once we have something concrete to share, you will see it on our blog. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

So you cannot even say when you started version 4 even in a general sense? (i.e. January, last week, earlier this year, last summer, yada yada yada)

Hey there, Carl. Please see my previous post for the answer to your question. It isn't finished, but a lot of the groundwork has been laid going back months, so it is impossible to pinpoint the 'conception date' of 1Password 4.

The simpler the question, the more complex the answer, oftentimes. How does the US economy work? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Ahhh I see Agile has indeed grown up. Making promises too early simply puts you at risk of having the information thrown back in your face

should you not be able to fulfill the promise.

4.0 will likely be a worthy upgrade ..or at the least i'm banking on it but i'm in no hurry myself. 1PW manages my passwords with little hassle now.

I am confident that we can deliver something awesome for 4.0, but yes it is better to not promise anything specific and have it not pan out -- even if the rest is stellar! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Did you read my original post that started this thread? If so, I recommend re-reading it.

No one is asking anyone about promises for the future.

I re-read your original post. Since "it is impossible to pinpoint the 'conception date' of 1Password 4" how will you "have something concrete to share"... "on our blog" in the future?? <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' />

    No reply necessary on this one <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
  • Carl - would you mind if I linked your posts to my Twitter a/c? We could all do with a laugh on our commute to work.

I suspect we will announce the release and new features of 1Password 4 when it is done. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
