iMac/iPod Touch Syncing problem

I am using Lion 10.7.1; 1Password 3.8.5 on my iMac; and 1Password Pro 3.5.9 on my iPod Touch & iPad 2. I've had a problem syncing the iPod Touch w/the iMac for the last few weeks; the iPad 2 sync is fine.

When I sync the iPod Touch & the iMac, I get a conflict resolution box. But, the entry in question no longer exists on either the iPod or the iMac; it was deleted weeks ago. No matter which device I choose to "resolve" the conflict, it continues to occur. I've emptied the trash multiple times and this entry doesn't appear on either system anywhere. I've closed 1Password on both systems, restarted them, tried to sync, received the conflict box, emptied the trash, and started the whole process over again numerous times. But the problem still occurs.

I've attempted to attach a screenshot of the conflict box that I see but I'm not certain it's attaching correctly. The file path displayed is different than the actual file path to the screenshot.

Suggestions on how to fix this so that the sync completes correctly?

Thank you.

Sheri

  • Hey there, Sheri! Welcome to the forums! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I am sorry you are having this problem. I am not sure what damage might be done if someone used your library login credentials, but I removed the screen shot so hopefully you won't have to find out.

It sounds like there is some discrepancy between the date of the deleted file and the one on your iPod. Are you using Dropbox or Wi-Fi sync? I think the best place to start is to launch 1Password on your Mac and use Help > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File and then see if the data is sync'd properly afterward. If you had removed this item from 1Password on your Mac intentionally and you no longer need it, try removing it on the iPod as well before sync'ing again.

Please let me know what you find. I look forward to hearing back from you. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Thank you for removing the screen shot. I hadn't thought about that although I'm sure there's minimal risk with my library log-in. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />

I just tried you suggestion and the problem still occurs. As I mentioned previously, the library entry does not appear anywhere on either the Mac or the iPod, not even in trash. Rebuilding the data file as you suggested still didn't solve the problem. My guess, although I obviously don't know, is the problem somehow lies with the iPod, as I can sync the iPad 2 w/o problem. Does that sound like a reasonable assumption?

I'm open to other suggestions as rebuilding the data file didn't resolve the problem.

    Thanks.

    Hi Sheri,

Sorry to hear that did not resolve it for you.

Whenever things get wonky on iOS the first thing I usually suggest is to reinstall the app in question. Note that following this procedure will erase any data stored in the 1Password app on your iOS device, so you'll have to set up your master password and syncing again. If everything is not already synced up first, you will want to make sure to backup your data before performing this procedure:

    http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/backup.html

Once you have your data backed up you can remove 1Password by pressing and holding on the 1Password icon until all the icons start to jiggle. Then you can click the X in the top left corner to uninstall 1Password. Once 1Password disappears, you can press the home button to stop the icons from jiggling. You can then either re-sync the 1Password app over from your computer, or download a fresh copy from the App Store (note: even though the button still says "Buy," you won't actually be charged a 2nd time).

Once reinstalled, you can re-setup the sync.

P.S. Have you tried using Dropbox to sync your 1Password data? This is the recommended way to sync. It is secure, automatic, and happens in the cloud so your devices no longer need to be on the same wifi network in order to sync!

Please see this help guide for more details:

Uninstalling & reinstalling on the iPod Touch seems to have worked. I couldn't redownload from the iTunes App store as it showed that it had been already downloaded; in that case, it doesn't give you the option to download again. But, I had left the app in iTunes so I used the iTunes sync to load the 1Password app back onto the iPod. I then synced 1Password with my Mac and all seems to work fine now.

Out of curiosity, why is syncing via Dropbox preferable to syncing via wi-fi? I can understand if your network is not available to you, but if it is, would Dropbox still be preferable? If so, why?

Thanks very much for your help. It's nice to have 1Password working correctly on my iPod again.

    You are very welcome. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

We recommend Dropbox over wifi because it is a less manual process (no more having to remember to sync your 1Password before leaving the house), it has proven to be more reliable, and, as I mentioned, doesn't require your devices to be on the same network (you could be at work on your iOS device and your computer at home will automatically be updated with any changes you made at work before you get home). If wifi syncing works for you, then that's great, but many of our customers had difficulties with it and that is why we began working with Dropbox. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
