Use DropBox Question
I am using 1Password3 from the MAS. When I try to configure my data location, the <Use Dropbox...> button is greyed out and I cannot select it. I have my DropBox folder on my desktop (and not in the standard location in my Documents folder). Any idea why I cannot select to move my data to my DropBox account? Does 1Password3 require that the Dropbox folder be located in its standard installed location? I have attached an image of the window. thx,
Mike

Hi meioticDrive
Yes it does require you to have your Dropbox in the standard install location.
When 1P was submitted to the MAS certain conditions have to be met and one of those was where to look for your data file.
If can either be in the standard location for those not using Dropbox
or
It can be in the default Dropbox location in the user folder.
*Please note the MAS version requires your keychain to be in the root of the Dropbox folder (not in another folder inside dropbox)

Oxon,
I have mine in a folder as well, all I can say is when I installed the MAS version it pulled over the correct settings etc.
I am having no issues so unless you really just feel like moving it, I personally see no reason to move it. I have to maintain the folder as the keychain is shared between myself and the wife. But as I said no issues here, I am going with the old adage if it aint broke don't fix it. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />Flag 0 -
I also had the problem (using 1Password 3.9.0) of the greyed "Use Dropbox". I found my Dropbox in a Documents subfolder. Using the Dropbox app, I moved the Dropbox folder back under Documents. I still have the greyed "Use Dropbox" and have tried shutting down and restarting everything with no change.
I guess the real question is - Where - exactly - should dropbox be? In Documents? In the HOME folder? Is there anything I have to do in 1Password to have it re-look??

My apologies for the last question - here's the answer: The Dropbox must be in the HOME folder, not in Documents as was indicated earlier.
Now, however, I have another question. Dropbox only allows sharing of Folders - not of files in the Root Folder. Since the Agilebits keychain is a file, I cannot share the file with my wife's Dropbox. Instead I have to have her computer access my Dropbox in order to have access to the 1Password data? Is that correct?
Alternatively, I guess I could establish a new Dropbox just for files my wife and I share, but that seems like a kluge.Flag 0 -
Dropbox should actually see the Agile Keychain as a folder when using its web interface: http://dropbox.com/
You should be able to share your Agile Keychain from there.
Please let me know how it goes. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Hey Ben
As you can see in this screen shot the keychain must be in a folder in order to share it with another Dropbox account.
This shot shows the option for the sharing link for the actual folder.

This shot shows that the option does not exist for just the 1Password keychain.

@CarlH
It is possible to get the Setup to work. Here is how I did it.
I previously had version 3.8.x installed and setup to use my Dropbox sync using a 1Password folder for the Keychain (allows sharing)
So This setup works. In the below scenario I am assuming you are using the MAS version on all of your Macs.

Uninstall the MAS version,

STOP Dropbox

install the 3.8.x version set the preferences to use the keychain that is in the Dropbox/<sharedfolder>

Note: This setup must be repeated on all Macs you want 1Pasword to use the shared folder. i e. Your mac, and the Wife's...If you get a prompt from 1P asking for a license simply dismiss it. You will not be keeping this previous version running and therefore will not need a license.

I think it is easier to do them (all Macs) at one time.

Note : I very strongly recommend using a 1Password folder in the Dropbox root for your share and not a folder by any other name. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

Once all Macs are setup START Dropbox, make sure all files are in sync etc.

I always make sure that all Macs are using the same keychain by making a change on one and verifying it shows up on the other and vice versa. A really quick way to make sure each Mac is using the keychain in the folder. Is to simply open the folder inside Dropbox and double click on it 1P will ask if you wan to switch to this keychain, select yes. (Advanced note : the double click file and change preferences will not work in the MAS version)

Uninstall the 3.8.x version (Again on all Macs). You will need to do this or the MAS may detect you have 1Password already installed and not allow you the option to reinstall the MAS version.

Reinstall the MAS version.

The correct file path should be maintained when you start up 1Password
This screen shot shows that my installed correctly picked up the previously used keychain setting and more importantly I am using a shared folder.

Please note there are other methods available here in the forums and they work as well, but some of those you have to edit certain files etc.
This method is a little time consuming uninstalling / installing / uninstalling / installing but it may be more helpful for those who do not want to edit files etc.
Note : When installing the MAS version do not use an app uninstaller simply delete the app from the applications folder. Some automated app removers have actually deleted the users keychain in the past and I do not want to see this happen to you.
As long as your keychain is in Dropbox already you should be good to go. It never hurts to be safe.
I would also like to mention you need a good backup solution, Time machine, CrashPlan, BackBlaze etc
I prefer CrashPlan. Time Machine and Dropbox. When I use to rock climb we called a 3 anchor system bomb proof (not very likely to fail), so I maintain this setup to this day.
I live on the east cost, CrashPlan's servers are in the midwest, and Dropbox's are on the west coast. 3 different backup sources, 3 different geographical locations, etcFlag 0 -
Tommy's workaround is not actually supported — use it at your own risk — but an update to 1Password will support the data file in a subfolder for sharing across Dropbox accounts. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';-)' />
