Knox and EXT3

I have a synology external NAS drive that uses EXT3 as file system. Can I create a new vault and keep my encrypted information in there?

Thanks.

    Hi Chabo,

Yes, you can use an AFP share to transfers your vaults or backup your vaults to the NAS. The vaults itself does not require an HFS+ partition as they are self-contained.

However, using a vault from the NAS is not recommended or supported. That means asking Knox to open the vault from the NAS, there are risks to the vaults when you do this.
  • Thanks Mike. What happens if I am using a whole disk encryption in an external drive (USB) and I would like to have a backup in my NAS drive? If I copy the folders to the NAS will the encryption hold?
  • Hi Mike - Any advise? Thanks
  • Hey there, Chabo! Sorry for the wait! Copying data from an encrypted volume to an unencrypted volume will result in the data being decrypted for the transfer, and of course there is no encryption on the target volume.

Sorry for sounding so obtuse. I just can't think of a simple way of saying it, besides that the best thing to do would be to set Knox Preferences > Backups > Backup Location to the network drive, and then Knox will backup the full vaults (which will leave the encryption intact.)

I hope this helps. Let me know of you have any other questions. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
