sync to iPhone not happening. missing sth obvious?

Dear all,
I have done iPhone Wifi-syncs before and I think I know how that is done. But Right now, I can't seem to manage to get my iPhone recognized by 1P.
I also did a database reset on my iphone in order to start from scratch. I get to the screen on the iphone with the two secrets, but 1Password never asks for those nor can I press the Sync Now button.
Using latest iOS 1P version and 3.8.8 on the mac.

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble syncing. I'm sure you already know about Dropbox syncing, but I just thought I would mention that it is just as secure as Wi-Fi syncing, more robust, and fully automatic.
http://help.agilebits.com/1Password3/cloud_syncing_with_dropbox.html
If you would prefer to stick with manually syncing via Wi-Fi, please read on.
On your Mac, if your iOS device is already listed in the sidebar under the SYNC section, please remove it by right-clicking on it and selecting "Delete…"
IMPORTANT: Because of the Bonjour networking service that Apple provides for Wi-Fi syncing, please restart your Mac and iOS device before proceeding further. You can restart your iOS device by holding down both the Sleep and Home buttons simultaneously for at least ten seconds until the Apple logo appears.
After restarting, please open Terminal (found in your /Applications/Utilities folder). Copy and paste this line into Terminal and press Return:
defaults write ws.agile.1Password ShowWiFiSyncAuthAutomatically -bool YES
That command is probably the most important step in this process. If you have previously disabled the Wi-Fi sync authentication prompts, that will reenable them.
Now, please open 1Password on your Mac and iOS device.
On your iOS device, go to Settings > Sync and turn WiFi Sync ON, then follow these steps:
1. Tap "Allow New Connections"
2. 1Password on your iOS device will display two secret sync codes.
You’ll need these in a minute.
3. On your Mac you should be prompted to enter the codes automatically
4. Click "OK" and begin configuring your sync options.
5. Click "Sync" to perform a sync operation.
If you are still stuck, please take a look at our Wi-Fi Sync Troubleshooting Guide.
http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/sync_problems.html
Please let me know how it turns out, or if you have any additional questions.
Thanks!Flag 0 -
I know - Dropbox is secure. That's what they used to say until they had to change their TOS (TermsOfService), because their privacy statement was no longer true. Right?
Despite the keychain being encrypted I still prefere me being the only one having access to it. Knowing that US agencies have access is not so cool, imo - but hey, I'm just paranoid wearing my tinfoil-hat. "nothing to hide" as they say...
Thanks for describing how to restart an iPhone <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />
It worked. I didn't know, I had to delete the device. But that fixed my problem. Thanks for your help khad.Flag 0 -
Hey khad, I think I have to "re-open" this issue. I have (again) syncing problems with this setup.
Here's what I do:
Open 1Password
Open 1P on iOS go to More > Settings > Sync > Wi-Fi
The iPhone is in 1P but the "Sync Now" button is grayed out. Not sure what the problem is.
Do I have to delete and re-initiate the iPhone each time I want to sync? That can't be the concept behind this.Flag 0 -
Sorry for the delay, LosInvalidos. I've been spending more time at our new support site lately since the number of posts in the forums has been going down. I'm trying to find the right balance between the two, but I haven't quite found it yet... Hopefully soon! <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
You certainly shouldn't have to initialize syncing from the beginning every time you want to sync. Try simply restarting your Mac and iPhone.
If that alone doesn't do the trick, please follow the steps above to start from scratch one last time. Please don't skip any of the steps since they are all important. Once we have a clean slate, let's go from there.
The button could simply be disabled if your iPhone is not broadcasting its IP via bonjour. Have you taken a look at the Wi-Fi Sync Troubleshooting Guide? You could try accessing your device by IP address to see if Apple's Bonjour is the culprit.Flag 0 -
Wow. This is chaotic again. Not sure where to start. Since I already reset the whole thing once I'm not sure what the point of doing that again actually is, but I'll try it. Also, I did not skip any step of your description. Why should I?
First:
I go to http://help.agilebit...roblems.html#ip
Then first thing I notice: Screenshot is not identical to what I see with 1P Pro for iOS 3.6.1 also I do not have any advanced view. So maybe you should update your help guide or maybe I'm even more broke than I thought?
Here's the pic you guys have:
oh, I can't upload it: "Used 496.91K of your 500K global upload quota (Max. single file size: 3.09K)" File would have been 38kb.
Well then I can't help. But also I can't test.
I found in 1Password 3 on your Mac, go to Help > Troubleshooting > Sync using IP address. But since I don't have that data from iOS I can't test that.
UPDATE: I just found out that the IP & Port info is "hidden" under the "Allow advanced connections" button. Maybe that should be added to the description on http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/sync_problems.html
To sync 1Password with your device by its IP address, scroll down on the Wi-Fi Sync screen of your touch device and tap Advanced. There you will find an IP address and port number to enter into 1Password on your Mac:
But at that place, there is no IP & Port info.
I tried a second time what you wrote before but now iPhone isn't even showing up in 1P on the mac. I deleted the device, then restarted both iPhone and mac and then did the terminal command.
Then pressed "Allow advanced connections" and now I see the 2 secrets but 1Password does not ask for anything nor does it show up any iDevice.Flag 0 -
If 1Password does not show an IP address in its Advanced Wi-Fi settings, the device may not be assigned one....!? This would definitely be a problem for Wi-Fi syncing.
Check the device's Settings.app and make sure you are connected to your Wi-Fi network. Settings.app > Wi-Fi > [then view the details for your connection by tapping the circled > to the right of the network name]. What is the IP address displayed there?
http://help.agilebits.com/1Password_touch/sync_problems.html#checknetworkFlag 0 -
OK I now found an IP address & port number. I also was able to enter that in 1P. But 1P never asks for the two secrets. So the "sync now" button stays greyed out.
But both my device + the device as the ip address show up in 1P.
Now what? And sorry I'm causing trouble yet again. That's not my intention but currently it seems I can't figure how WiFi-Sync works - at all.Flag 0 -
You're not causing trouble at all. It's the networking goblins. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/skype_smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':-)' />
You may begin to see one of the reasons we recommend Dropbox syncing after going through all this to get everything on your network properly configured. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> We'll get it sorted out, though. I appreciate your patience as we do.
Are you able to ping your device from your Mac? Open Network Utility (/Applications/Utilities), and on the Ping tab enter your device's IP address to make sure you are able to reach it from your Mac.

Is your Mac using an IP address on the same subnet? That is, do both your Mac and iOS device have identical IP addresses except for the last number grouping? 10.0.0.1 & 10.0.0.2, 192.168.0.1 & 192.168.0.2, etc.Flag 0 -
10 packets transmitted, 10 packets received, 0.0% packet loss -> seems to work.
Is your Mac using an IP address on the same subnet?
Yes.
Might I be missing something obvious here? Everything looks fine. But 1Password does not asked for the 2 secrets and the "Sync Now" button is greyed out.
Now, just as I was typing the above sentence I tried clicking the grey Sync now and 1Password asked for the 2 secrets. I Entered them and now I can sync.
TO SUMMARIZE:
- I have no clue why it wouldn't do this in the first place.
- Seems to work fine now.
- Yes, I understand why Agile wants to move to Dropbox, BUT despite that being the easiest option it is not the savest. (I know 1Password data is encrypted, but hey for a paranoid, what if Agile had it encrypted with two keys and gave one key to US officials for whatever reasons. Now that would be uncool. I know Agile are a great company but this is not a mad mans fantasy, it is what has happened with Verbatim (which is not a small company) software which offered the user encryption).
So despite all this trouble, I will stay with wifi-sync. The only way to make sure your data is save, is to not give it out of your hands. Putting it on a US server is not what I'd recommend for anyone to do.Flag 0 -
Woohoo! I'm glad things are working now. <img src='http://forum.agilebits.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/emoticon-0123-party.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='(party)' />
Often it can just be a matter of one piece of the whole puzzle not quite being aligned properly. If you were not getting an IP address earlier, but you have one now that could have been it. Usually, following the steps I outlined in my first post above will do the trick: restarting both iOS device and Mac and starting "from scratch", but every now and again it takes just a few more tries for everything to "click".Flag 0
